Through the idle vagaries of passing dreams
She knew once more the open sweetness
Of pastures and of primrose dotted paths;
Heard the crystal laughter of hidden waters,
And saw blackbirds like scattered soot on golden fields;
Danced with the dappled shadows of swaying leaves
In the clear, fresh wash of dawn,
And drank deep from the clarity of reflective pools; Rested by the cool of green brushed trees,
Nor faltered at the stretch of road that wound
In lazy, endless maze, to unknown lands.
Yet even Memory could not keep
It always summer, and she heard afar
The rustle of brown leaves departing,
And the soft flutter of feathers
Loosed from wings of homing birds;
Saw, like wardens of unguessable regions
Stark against the storming sky,
The twisted forms of wind-wracked pines.
And knew, in finality, the muting fall
Of silent snow...the ghosts of blossoms
From a spring that died.

This is a very good poem.  I really like how you've described the passing of time.

Of silent snow...the ghosts of blossoms
From a spring that died.

I really liked these two lines.  They really sum up the poem.  Good work, thank you for sharing!

You present lovely imagery here. Spring can be a wonderful season. But for me, I prefer the Winter. Very nice work nevertheless.

Rex..As always, my friend, excellent.  Like Sandra, I, too, am enjoying your book.  A paltry investment to so greatly enrich my library of poetry.  Hardrock
