She stands on a hill overlooking the Bay
From where she has come, no one can say
She stands, watching the setting sun
Wondering when her true love will come

Twas on a day like this that he did depart
It was on that same day, he took her heart
Pledged to her that bright day his life
And when he returned, she would be his wife

Then, the day she most feared came
Since then, her life has never been the same
Word came that his ship was lost at sea
She knew then that her soul would never be free

So now, every day on that hill she stands
Watching the ocean and the beach's shifting sands
She waits to hear his voice above the waves
For only by his voice alone will she be saved

That final night, they say she heard his voice
She leapt to the wall, she knew her choice
Speaking softly, "Brianna my love, Brianna my light"
"Come to me now my heart
                               let your soul take flight"

ah beautiful......as if on that fateful night..that voice softly beckoned her to jump into the waters of her fate..and their destiny.....but looks as if she chose to stand and mourn atop that hill.....a very tender..bittersweet poem this is Sven.

Love the poem!

Have no clue who Briana is amongst your adoring female friends here at Passions.  But Whoever she is, she is very lucky to have you write such a wonder about her.

Wonderful job, Sir, with your tale of angst and longing. It's beautifully crafted, reminds me of a story of a lighthouse my grandmother use to tell. Thank you for taking me back to gentler times--that's the mark of a very good writer!

With a long held breath given dark freedom, the single flame in sorrow's window flickers out.

And she willingly leapt from the wall,
Into their beloved bay,
She knew in her heart and soul,
There simply wasn't any other way......

Had to come back again Sven, this is awesome for lack of a weaker word.....

I'll tell you this...... No eternal reward will forgive us now for wasting the dawn.....
