The Shores of Alone

Just a little something light to think about

I think I'm getting better,
though I'm getting older too.
My hair has gray strands in it,
but my heart is still brand new.

I'm not afraid to speak up now
I know I'm valuable.
I don't let people walk on me.
I'm much less malleable.

I need love deeply as before,
want passion tinted nights.
The difference-when it's missing
it's not such a tragic plight.

Depression used to weigh me down
it's visits do not end.
But now I pass through faster,
I just pull out my pen.

I write more, and I understand
the world around me better.
Repel the shadows easier
with the simple scrawl of letters.

Physically, it's not so good
I don't quite look like me.
Most of my body's heading south,
but that's not all I see.

Yes I'm older now, I know.
Not so young and beautiful.
Too bad, I say, I'm just as good.
And maybe better, too!

Age brings wisdom, they say and indeed it does. But Cat, don't you know that age also brings its own kind of beauty. There is much more life in a face that has lived than in a young one!

Sandra...so true, so true.  Why is it that youth is wasted on the young?  Why can't we be born old, then, armed with all that wisdom and reflective contemplation, BACK UP through life?  We would all love better, say less, do more...and never war again.  Loved it.  Hardrock

Oh yes, well said, m'lady! I too have a hint of silver at the temples peeking thru, but I've never been more comfortable in my own skin.

Maturity and experience are life's greatest teachers....laughing...too bad they refuse to teach to the very young, aye?

What's that old saying: "If only I could go back knowing then what I know now..." Here's to deep thoughts and pens to share them with.

Cheers, m'lady,

Oh Cat, this is wonderful, and SO true.  I've always said that age is simply mind over matter and I am always amazed at the "older" person who stares back at me from the mirror.  To me, I'm still 23.  Loved this.  Linda

Sandra....see, I told you so!  Great!

Poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings: it takes its origin from emotion recollected in tranquility.
