The mourners stood round,
One or two cried the odd tear,
A tearful adieu for my spirited soul,
All that remains now - a black chasm of fear.

Such spirit pounded and hounded unmercifully,
Yet still it fought on as long as it could,
Growing smaller and weaker day by day,
Similar to a monk's retreat under his hood.

So valiantly it tried to sustain itself,
Seeking shelter, peace and enlightenment,
After years of poisonous emotional barbs,
It gratefully accepted your banishment.

I called my friends and family around,
To share with me my loss,
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust,
And you were the first with a fistful of dirt to toss.

My spirit, my soul is now gone,
How I mourn it's passing,
So many times I begged for understanding,
My reward? Pain everlasting.

So come one, come all,
Stand beside the grave with me,
Mourn with me, shed a tear,
For with my soul's departure, nothing can save me.

I'll tell you this...... No eternal reward will forgive us now for wasting the dawn.....

~Oh my, Isis,...I don't know what to say. This is haunting in it's sense of realism. I won't stand and watch,...I'll fight (for you). Isis, hoping you are well. *Peace.

Sounds like a lot of pain in your heart. Love the poem, but hope you are ok.

Hi Isis, long time no see my friend   And what a pleasure to read such an incredible poem! This is a strong piece, and some very unique images as well.

Isis,
I feel for you.  I'm reminded of my old signaturewhich read "when dark of night steals your soul think of me and be made whole". It was written on a tombstone. The poem was great even death can't separate us from loved ones.
Be well
Kethry.
