birds
created from colored paper
brought to life
through the magic of your hands
torn
from the pages of library books
my forbidden fate
flies after

"tell me sir-
will you help me find
the garden of forgiveness
that i seek?"

taken by the hand
one i knew so well
i tumble to my first death

the birds that follow me
pick out my eyes
with their paper-cut beaks

my second death
to be betrayed by one I have loved so well
to cry blood
to find love with lost eyes
is to not find love at all

it is my eyes that make me beautiful
my empty bleeding holes
make me beautiful

you can fold me ito my many parts
like so much paper
give me wings of printed words
let me free
to fly in the garden that i seek
to die in the rain
clinging wet
to a tree
bleeding the ink
of your name
