The Shores of Alone

0 posted 2000-07-30 08:55 PM

Some things still take me
by surprise.

The moment I realize
I was wrong again,
though I knew without doubt
I was right this time.

The pain stabbing my heart
at the mention
of an old lover's name.
A pain supposed to be cured
years ago.

The truth, abruptly noted:
the new century
did not bring a better life.
Did not resolve
a single thing.

The admission I sadly make.
Another misbegotten love has failed.
I am alone again.

The quick glimpse in the mirror,
as an undesirable apparition appears
looking suspiciously like my mother.

The arrogance again observed
of those in an artificial
position of power.
They do not deserve respect.

It hasn't changed a bit
over all these years.
I still hate surprises.

Cat..Is this ever true!!!  I am still surprised at being surprised. All my years, all my experiences and I am still surprised at all I see around me.  The looking in the mirror was the best part...my dad has appeared there I'm afraid (in appearance only, thank goodness).  I voted...definitely book material.  Hardrock

Wonderful work here hon, I too still get surprised by what effects me and what doesn't.
But I differ in one respect I see my father when I look in the mirror, and having only met him for the first time in Dec '99 I'm thrilled at that image!!
Great musings hon..

Alice stepped into her looking glass: it sounds as if you stepped out of yours. Very creatively expressed. Sometimes reflection is curative...sometimes one just needs to turn the silvered reflection to the wall and move on...
Nice job here.  *S*

Cat,
don't we all hate those surprises that take us by surprise, time and time again! A brilliant poem. Need I say so? You know it!
