Tenderness Lost

Even the softest of uncertain sighs
in the silence seems a tortured dirge.
Hands reach out which once
in our world coaxed pleasure
with tender caress.
Eyes that once searched deep into my soul
shed tears in vain and again grow cold.
And from this place
once passion stemmed
the lament of hesitation now alone stirs.
So sad to watch as hope
for a breath begs to take unto itself fulfilled.
Having all said and done and then to find
folded in nine pencil-written pages
a plea that breaks my heart to read.
Where were these words
when I listened for their sound?
Might this be stability,
or misconception only
to the innocent two of two protect?
And the third heart wounds anew
as it seeks to impatiently balm
that which can no longer heal.
Still understanding not that time alone
now can soothe the void created
when tenderness we lost along our way.

This poem was so sad and so well written, it made me cry.

Maureen, jwesley, Ginners,

Thank you for the kind words, this was the first attempt I had made in poetry in quite a while. As a firstborn of sorts, no matter the melancholy tone, it will stay a favourite. I'm glad you liked...  *S*

I loved it, Evan. A great poem, sad, and conveying that feeling so well.
