I wish I were with you, my love
I wish I had my friend

But here I am alone, my love
It's fallen, night, again

I gazed a gazely stare, my love
Tonight, upon the moon

It made me long for you, my love
I wish you hither, soon

Alone, in velvet night, my love
Alone, in sleepless dark

Alone, my doubts are such, my love
That I fall short thy mark

But still, there is that moon, my love
Though small it helps my pain

Somehow the wind, it smiles, my love
On us, this night, again

Note: The fifth line is quite plagiarized-- the phrase "gazed a gazely stare" is lifted wholesale from David Bowie's "Man Who Sold the World" (Album of same name, I forget what year; it is properly attributed on www.teenagewasteland.com). Sorry for the double post but I couldn't take credit for it, although I *wish* I had written it.

"And one day...the whole stinking world would be theirs..."
-- Velvet Goldmine (Todd Haynes, Oscar Wilde and, unofficially, David Bowie)

I think we are all guilty of "borrowing" lines from other places such as songs. I just hope the Manic street preachers never read some of my poems. LOL. Anyway really enjoyed the poem, well written.

Simply beautiful, Portia.  As for the "lifted line"..it matters not.  It gives to the poem.  Nice job.  Hardrock
