A soldiers cry

High in the air, soldiers fly
Ocean waves, some travel
Across ground they move
Most never even said “bye”

A soldiers cry isn’t heard
Far away from home
Afraid and all alone
Memories faded and blurred

Fighting a foreign nation
In a war tense formation
Stresses mount as rifles fire
The American soldier will not tire

In the cold they lay
In the snow they stay
In the rain they don’t complain
A soldiers hope, always remain

Dreams shatter as buddies’ fall
Red with blood the snow tainted
Screams of fear, the voices painted
The wounded soon begin to squall

One by one, a soldier dies
Bullets strike chests
Bullets strike heads
All over the soldiers lie

Mystified as hauntings linger
So far away the soldier cries
Slowly, squeezing a finger
The soldiers’ bullet soon flies
Suddenly stopping the aggressor
The soldier asks, “Who is the transgressor?”

Graves scatter across this land
For soldiers who took this stand
For every soldier who died
Is a soldier who once cried

National cemeteries blanket with stones
In rows, the soldiers final formation
Listen closely to the soldiers’ moans
Look at the solders that gave to our nation

Some soldiers didn’t die
A cold welcome they came
Mocking, they are not to blame
A soldier who once tried
Living, a persistent pain
Of memories left; vain
Can you hear their cry?

Somewhere a soldier cries
Not for money or fame
For us all, you and I
A soldiers life; all the same
This soldier shares no shame

Don’t let our soldiers languish
Remember our fellow patriots
Remember and Feel their anguish
Hear the soldiers’ soft sigh
Don’t let our soldiers cry

I wrote this because I have had friends fall from war. I also give my heart in pure appreciation for all that came before me. I never let a Veteran go un-noticed, and thank them so. Giving us this Land of freedom that I dearly Love. The United States of America.

God Lar, now I feel like crying. How fitting a tribute to all the soldiers of our country and of the world. War knows no home, no love, no sanity. And the sacrifices made are so great. Thank you for this, it is wonderful and I hope it goes in the book.

Lar..I agree with Cat...a very nice tribute indeed.  And to all our soldiers who may have never experienced war (and I hope they don't), "He also fights, who sits and waits", whether it be at the 33rd Parallel of Korea, the Cactus Curtain of Guantanamo Bay, Cuba (Jack Nicholsen was RIGHT in a "A Few Good Men") or the gate guard at Ft. Drum in NY.  People tend to forget these fighting men and women.  But they do a job for us...they help keep us free.  Thank you.  Hardrock

This is  avery touching piece, I feel strongly that veterans should receive more appreciation than they do.  I wrote a poem in the Corner Pub called Through a Soldiers Eyes.  My heart aches when I think of all the lives lost to war and how we too easily forget them..only concerned with whether we won.  I am very moved by this poem!....beth

~LarBear,...can I thank you for writing and posting this? Honestly. I am lost in my search for the proper words,...and perhaps I'm just afraid...I've done this before, where I've backed out of saying more than I am left speechless, but I am. I feel so small and just wish that somehow I could express myself in this subject. I truly feel your words,...every one of them. Every One. Thank you. Thank the soldiers everywhere. I will go quietly now. Take care. *Peace.

As painful as it is, I am always glad to read someones tribute to our men, that so bravely defended our couontry. This brings tears to my eyes, I have always struggled with the thought of what they endured, as I know I can't even imagine their real truth. They have my highest respect. Thank you for this piece, I will be voting!!

Well done!  An eloquent tribute to all the armed forces of our great country!  Americans of today tend to forget that the price of the freedom they enjoy comes high.
Thanks!

First of all, I want to thank ya`ll for the comments on this poem.

I need to say this:

I had the motivation to write this poem for a MIA soldier that was listed as missing Aug 1944. He was on his first mission in the US Army Air Corp, as a tail gunner. His plane crashed into a heavly brushed forrest in China. Its thought the pilot was lost, due to the heavy fog the day the plane disapeared. This crash was spoted by China farmers in 1996. China contacted the US, and sent people over thier to identify the remains. Although, there was a full crew, one soldier hit home. PVT. Netherwood from Kingston, NY.He is survived by four sisters, along with family from those sisters. I work in Kingston and felt a brotherhood with this family. Yesterday, I attended his funeral along with the NYNG, VFW, American Legion,  West Point Honor Gaurd and many friends and family. At that time, I gave the above poem to a grandaughter of one of the sisters. She inturned read it to the other sisters and family. They wanted me to read it aloud to all the people that was there. I didnt want too, but i did anyway. Due to the emotional and signicance of this event, I was so nervous. After I did read it, I was thanked, over and over. Such an event in my life. I have touched the hearts of their family and friends. Its nice to know after 56 years one soldier has been finaly laid to rest. My small part given to this family will forever be a great memory in my heart.
Thank you,
LarBear

...and all I can do is cry, such saddness fills my heart and mind when I think of the fallen and the words and welcome that many received...so unkind!
Thank you for this.
