Please don't anyone get heavy about this. It was written, and I hope it will be read, with a sense of whimsy. Satan meets Dr. Seuss.

Evil exuded a mournful sigh
at the way it's been treated these days
It's more concerned than you can imagine
about its poor, tarnished image, it says.

"First off, let's get this whole 'witch' business straight
I'm rather disturbed by this one thing
I got a *good* rap with those witches, you know,
compared to the Church. Is that something?

Next, while I'm on it, the Church thing, you see
--well I didn't start off to recruit them
but the religions all seemed to be ugly inside
so I took them all in. Well, it suits them.

Third, there's the thing with world hunger
I hear myself blamed for this often
It wasn't that way, before man was invented--
and then rich governments never do soften.

And the news, ah the news. Are you seeing a pattern?
Yeah, I know, I just seem to be spreading.
But they talk about stuff like it's all so important
and don't see where the world, here, is heading.

Are you catching my drift? Look, I know, I have heard
about "devils" and "demons" and "horny" stuff
Some person came up with that too long ago--
and now I can't shake all that corny stuff.

It seems it's a scapegoat way to avoid me
or blame all this stuff, here, on others
but I have to object, Man, you sure have your gall
and I'd end it right now, if I had my 'druthers.

There seems to be quite a distinction
between Goodness and Me, have you caught it?
But it never was so before you came along
'Cause the dinosaurs-- they never bought it.

While we're talking, I'll ask for a little vacation,
and --phew!-- I sure hope you can dig it--
See, I've had a whole lot of business these days
with the racists and zealots and beaters and bigots.

*sighing*

Well *that* is a load off my chest, I must say--
You understand? Oh well, you tried to.
As long as I've gotten to say my peace--
Now I'm going back home-- excuse me, that's inside you.

Excellent!
Can't think of anything else to say.
I'm afraid a Chinese blubber nut has dissolved and expanded its jelly fibres throughout my brain today. Must be all that rain!

Sympathy for the devil, I love it. And all the comments so true, while said in a humorous way. Perfect.

I loved this one and giggled and chuckled all the way through it. You certainly know how to get me where I live.
