The Shores of Alone

0 posted 2000-07-24 12:58 PM

Inhabiting my shadow world
are memories long past.
I'm not afraid, I call to them,
my need will always last.

The love I felt remains here
in a spectral, haunting way.
The shadows wrap around me.
I'm happy if they stay.

The sun was not so special,
it always burnt my skin.
If I keep the shadows round me
the light cannot get in.

I cling to them, my lovers,
the dark, yet fading ghosts.
It's possible they hold me back
from what I seek the most.

Nothing but a miracle
will send them all away.
A love so strong, so purely bright,
it forces through the day.

I'm not expecting miracles.
My shadows are my friends.
Assuming past experience,
they're with me to the end.

So cloak me well my lovers,
keep me safe and warm at night.
Just remember, above all else,
to keep away the light.

My heart is broken.  This is so bittersweet.
I would encourage you to step into the light,
and find the good that exists there.  Linda

Very beautiful Sandra...."the dark yet fading ghosts"....great line! I know about the shadows as well. We all live there from time to time.

Poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings: it takes its origin from emotion recollected in tranquility.

I hope everyday that the shadows are cast aside forever, and replaced with the eternal light of love...Very nice work!!! Another wonderfully expressed verse!!

Cat...there is comfort in the shadows.  But you hide away your light.  Come dance with me at sundown.  We'll chase away the night.  We will all be your light...until you find another.  Hardrock

Cat, this one really grabbed me.
I love the way you describe that flight into memory, comforting in a way, but mainly destructive. Keeping away from the light because it burns and you don't want to get hurt again, keeping the memory of past hurt alive with those shadows that are meant to comfort. What a vicous circle!
Very very very well done.
