I called him friend
From the start,
Longing for love to blossom
Between our hearts.
He shared his soul,
Told of poverty,
Ridicule,
No mother to call his own.
Revealed things he had never
Shown.
I, in turn, opened my closet,
Introduced the skeletons
One by one.
Shared my secrets,
The races I have run,
The victories of long time coming,
How hard they were won.
He listened,
Making me feel not so bad.
Maybe not all men are cads.

But now, it is this man
That I love like no other,
Telling me it is the honesty
That has ruined Cupid's mission.
Too many have touched my skin,
It matters none what I hold
Within.
The truth has branded me,
And it shall never be we.
No need for him to try,
Doesn't quite know why.

If only I had chosen to lie.
I wouldn't know the truth about
Honesty.
What havoc it will wreak in your life.

Hell!  How to respond, obviously things got too heavy emotionally, and some when not ready to handle their own emotions etc, just flee.  How hard for you hon, I know  *hugs*

Honesty now..or honesty later.  It will come.  Better the bitter pill now, than the acid of memories built and destroyed later.  You are amazing.  This poem is amazing.  Hardrock

Yes, an excellent poem. But listen to Hardrock. Lies aren't worth it, they always get uncoevered in the end (unless you are a master of illusion).

Excellent thoughts and writing...I do believe that some will like or love you no matter what you tell them and some will use your words as weapons against you...some friends you can tell anything, some only a little, and some nothing...take care...James

Ah, Kynder, there you go again. First, this was a great poem of itself. And second, I had a three year relationship that was exactly like this, I spilled way too much, thinking I could, and yes it was held against me forever, until I finally left because I could not take it anymore. Honesty is one mixed blessing. I still think that to love someone, they have to at least have some knowledge or awareness of what you have been through. But some men can't take the truth. So maybe they don't deserve to get it?? Who knows. Sorry you are angry and hurting.

How true and sad when this happens, Ive heard this before and can only tell you never be ashamed of who you are. I too believe in the honestly route, Im just very sorry it left you without this person,  or hurt you in any way. Hold onto your true self. A wonderful poem!! Thanks for sharing.

Tugs at the heart!  Excellent!  Don't despair, there are still some real men out there.  In the long run, honesty is always for the better.

Poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings: it takes its origin from emotion recollected in tranquility.
