Although her mind
Is quietly slipping as
age sets in
I am enlightened by..
My mom

Together..
Over freshly brewed hazelnut coffee
We remember yesterday

I listen as she harvests
A bushel of memories
Some jumbled..
Some precise

She colors each season..
With wisdom
I notice her quivering lips
I sense the taste of home

She talks of superstition
"You always make a bed alone"
"Don't ever rock an empty chair"
It tickles my senses..
Like popcorn

She recalls..
People, Places
From Grandma's antidotes
To drive-in diners

Her memories burn..
Like the embers of
A long winters fire

Her stories comsume me
She unlocks each door..
Fond flashbacks enter, some seen through..
The steamy blur of a tear

Deb...so beautiful.  Hang on to those memories, repeat them, record them, for with time they will fade.  Pass them on to your children.  Hardrock

This was lovely. The imagery is wonderful. I liked, "It tickles my senses.. / Like popcorn" and "I listen as she harvests / A bushel of memories" especially.

Wow, Deb, just beautiful. And means so much. I have the same kind of thing with my Grandmother. Precious memories never to be lost.

Wow!  Such imagery, a beautiful thing anyone would enjoy reading!!  Wonderful imagery, and your Mom has a lifetime of jewelled memories she is sharing with you.  How wonderful.
It may sound silly but I find nothing more interesting than listening to old folks tell their life story in a collective way.  Write it down hon, the special memories before they are lost in the sands of time.
Great work

I just loved this. I wish I could write poems like this! A lovely picture you paint here, much better than a picture in fact!

Thanks so much everyone!! I have a strong connection with my parents, my dad has passed on, but still have mom. I was one of the "extrmely" lucky children to be truly wanted and loved so very much.
