Friends?

Dancing on the edge of happiness,
Close enough to touch...
You held my hand and said,
"Am I the one you trust?"

"Of course!" I said,
"You'd never let me fall."
But I have to wonder,
If I believed those words at all.

You'd never hurt me on purpose.
I believe that much is true.
But what do "little kids" know,
'Bout the hurtful things adults do?

If you really loved me,
Wouldn't you fight to stay my friend?
But you gave up too easily,
When my mom tried to put it to an end.

Did you know you're my angel?
Can't you see it in my eyes?
Sandie, I cry for no damn reason,
Have a history of attempted suicide.

Did you ever know that?
Swallowed pills, choked myself with a belt.
Cut myself with shards of glass,
Punched my legs till I saw welts.

I know it's sad, it's sick.
I'm ****ed up in the head.
But I hurt so much inside,
I'm too weak, I'd rather be dead.

Sandie, I'm drowning in my sorrows,
Choking on feelings so sad.
My heart's confused,
By all I lost and never had.

When I look in the mirror,
You know what I see?
I see myself for what I REALLY am.
Unwanted-unloved-ugly.

I never had a lot of friends.
I was always someone's joke.
I've ALWAYS been made fun of,
But when YOU laughed, my heart broke.

Don't tell me that you love me,
It's like fire, you'll get burned.
You never knew this was how I felt-
But you never took the time to learn.

I heard it takes seven years to build a friendship.
We have eleven, is this the end?
You really don't know anything about me,
So what really makes us friends?

NOTE: I know this is a really messed up poem, but I went through a really rough point in my life that one of my closest friends missed out on. She was always there but when I tried to talk to her about it, she kinda tip-toed around the subject. This really hurt me because we shared so much yet she wouldn't try to help me with this problem. And all I wanted was for her to listen. It made me feel like she didn't know me at all, because when this came up she was completely surprised by it. And it had been such a big issue in my life for so long. But she didn't know ANYTHING about it? I saw she just never took the time to pay attention and that hurt. But I'm ok now, I just have to work things out between me and her.

it always hurts when those you trust "cast a blind eye" during your times of extreme need.i dont know if this tender heartfelt poem will reach out to your friend...but it did reach out to me. and though it is true that "friendship can die", always remember that new life springs up from the ashes of the old. would like to see more of your emotionally beautiful work in the near future.

You say such great things, thanks. I sent my friend that poem with a letter attached and I tried to explain things to her, but all she did was say "I read your poem." Then acted like nothing was wrong. She still doesn't get it.

Very heartfelt and intense poem. I hope those very bad times are behind you. I think you are wanting to reach someone that is unreachable, if that was the only response you received to your poem. You will find more loyal friends, more sensitive and understanding friends. Truly.
Take care.

Oh my heart goes out to you. ITs so sad when we aren't heard or someone isn't there when we need them the most. You will have more true friends and I wish you all the happiness in the world!!! A very beautiful expression of your true feelings.

this is very powerful.  it is very hard to deal with when you see true colors finally fly like ribbons in the sky.  be it unequipped to deal with it, or unwilling to learn about it.... she can not be the true friend you felt her to be if she is still unable to see.  how difficult for you to realize.  one heck of a poem here tho.  hang in there.

Across the gateway of my heart,
I wrote "No Thoroughfare!!"
But love came laughing by and
Cried "I enter everywhere!!!"

Catalina~ Yes those "times" are behind me. I've found more creative and healthier forms of release.

Christopher~ ((hugs back!))

Deborah~ I hope I keep making true friends, but still I have to try and work on this one. She has had more to say recently...

kynder~ yes, very hard but I'll be ok.

Thanks to all of you. Regardless, of why she took so long to notice, I have to work on it, because I am HER true friend and our friendship means a lot to me. So I have to fight to keep it and make it stronger. Thanks for all your concern!
