The Shores of Alone

0 posted 2000-07-11 09:19 PM

Sometimes I'm sad for all the past
I'll never see again.
It's not so good, the present tense.
It's better where I've been.

The future is so dimly lit,
it's hard to plan ahead.
My hopes and dreams so in the air,
it's possible they're dead.

I know I have to persevere,
no other choice to make.
But if I really had my way,
I'd argue back with fate.

I'd ask a chance to try again,
to do it right this time.
To go back to the day I left,
the past to re-align.

But no, such things do not occur,
I'm stuck with what I've done.
No matter all the tears I cry,
my future has begun.

Can't take it back no matter how
I wish with all my might.
I'm on the road, though looking back,
no answer is in sight.

Perhaps some good will come of it,
this retrospective haze.
But nothing ever cures my need
to live those better days.

Where do I vote?  This is one of your best, Cat.  It was as near perfect as you could get.  Loved every line.  Hardrock

cat-This was beautiful, if we could only go back and do it again, right this time, but nothing can ever be any other way than the way it is.  Good write.

Oh wow, cat. What a sad one. You must try to look to the future. You can't undo the past, but you can learn from your mistakes.
BTW, my mother has been going through a bad patch similar to yours (from what I can see), and she says that a certain book really helps. It's called: "The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success" by Deepak Chopra. It teaches you not to look back with remorse and to make the most of the moment.

Oh! You are so very right!
"But nothing ever cures my need
to live those better days."
NOTHING CAN EVER CURE THAT NEED! Nothing!
A lovely poem

Excellent poem! You've put in words exactly how I've been feeling lately.

~Aaww Cat,...you are here, and you are special, and you are important...so make from right now on as awesome as possible.  That past thingy? well,..it makes us who we are. Ok,...quit laughing....I know it sounds like I'm trying to be all philosophical,...but I'm being honest and serious.  . Take care. Smile. *Peace.

i have to agree with rock on this one, moonbeam.  this is by far one of your best.  you have really touched a nerve in me.  thank you for sharing.  i take those tentative halfway regretful steps as well.  no choice but to trudge on. excellent work, cat.  keep it up.

Across the gateway of my heart,
I wrote "No Thoroughfare!!"
But love came laughing by and
Cried "I enter everywhere!!!"
