PURGATORY

I've spent the better half of my
Life building up this wall.
I've cast wishes up to the sky,
I've seen empty hope crawl.
The reticence of mortal man,
I've held time in my hand.
A world, frozen, once God's chosen
Parable of sand...

This desert soil, rich, resourceful,
Feeding my starving soul.
Dire ambition in fruition
Upon the planes of Scheol.
Decadent, the soliloquy,
If by flagrant behavior.
Who'll throw a stone by Fate's decree,
In the name of the Savior?

For by the daunt of love, once true,
Who, there, could be kinder?
Set to the steed of ashen hue,
That grim, ghastly reminder!
Colloquial ambition thrust
Unto the wage of war.
Vowing never again to trust,
I'll meet you at the fore.

With battle-lines so clearly drawn
In lust upon the eyes.
Who'll hold the banner high by dawn
To claim a victor's prize?
Dance in Darkness come the morrow
Lo, take refuge in scorn?
By the embattlements of Sorrow
Deliver love by morn?

Oh, if love could be delivered by morn and one could trust again.
Lovely poem, Michael.

I agree with what they've said and all I have to offer is "Wow...". Typical of me, eh? lol Well I try.

Deborah1, so glad you enjoyed this - there was MUCH feeling bleeding through the lines in this one, me thinks...

Irish Rose, Indeed - I believe it is possible...

Angel, I'll take a "wow" from you anyday... hehe.

catalinamoon & Hardrock, thank you both so much - and a pleasure to make your aquaintances, I may add.

Janet, Ah, you caught me sneaking around in the Dark again, didn't you... hehe.  Actually, my teachers "hated" me for the most part - mostly because I didn't buy into their perceptions of "poetry" and generalizations of author's intent in many cases... hehe  But that's o.k., I still see things differently than most people, I've just come to deal with it on a less vocalized basis these days... Oh, and sorry I sent you scurrying for the dictionary...

Thank you all for the kind replies,

Michael

Maybe it's uncharacteristic for a man to comment on another man's work such as this, but this piece totally rules!  You indeed are a deep thinker, yet not too over-analytical!  I can't wait to read more!

No Mike, you're wrong. THIS is the better half of your life! You only spent the first half perfecting who you are! The Mike we all (well not me... all the time... ) know and love!

Allan, that's quite a compliment... sincerest thanks.

brian, alright - pick your jaw back up already... hehe  you're giving me WAY too much credit here...

firejerm, Don't be ridiculous.  Good poetry deserves to be recognized regardless of gender...  Looking forward to reading your works as I attempt to get caught up in here - been on vacation awhile..

Chris, Haven't seen him since you bashed him in the alley - Oh, did you mean "Seven" as in the poem - hehe, sorry, misunderstood the question...  Will post it soon my friend, promise.  And thanks...

Michael
