Tonight your little cheek is wet
With glistening baby tears,
And baby heartbreaks hurt as much
As ours in later years...
But, oh! My sweet, tomorrow
When you waken with the dawn,
You'll find that sorrow's sped away
And baby woes are gone!
Yet I who watch above you
In that alchemy of sleep,
Know a deeper bit of heartache,
For...'twas I who made you weep!

Rex, that was very beautiful, and loved the flow of it too.

As usual Rex - Your poetry is beautifully structured, succint and conveys what you want to say so powerfully well that the reader feels what you wanted him to feel - and that is the hallmark of great poetry.

This is sweet and profound, with a lullaby ring. Beautiful!

Oh, this is lovely. Sometimes it seems as though there is no greater heartache for a child than what we ourselves cause. This captured that sorrow so well.

As a father, I too have wept over my girls..knowing that it was me that caused them grief.  Excellent, Rex.  Truly captured a father's heart.  Hardrock
