Curs'ed are the warriors
who shall die dishonored. Thy hearts shall
not measure in the scale.
Curs'ed is Pharoah
whose reign shall be usurped.

And the wind--the voice--
carried to the lower chambers where the
lesser priestesses hid
crouched against the flaming torches
and the steaming anger of men.

Remember thy mistresses.
They shall be protected even beyond death--
save them--
their bodies shall not house their souls.
Their souls shall be freed and instructed
to follow Me.
They shall Remember as you shall.
Anubis does not reign this day.

the Voice died on the wind
as the Priestesses died
mistaken for proclaimers of sacrilege
as the neophytes worked Her will
in solemn torchlight,
as the unbearable power,
Red, glorious power, consumed them.

As the sacred fire rose, the heat embracing
woman, stone, and scented herb
the heartfelt fire of life began
its decadent spiral.
No man can claim to know My will,
She warned, and extinguished the fires--
and the hearts of the hateful.

Remember was her last command
before the Lioness departed
and left the intertwined souls to come
when the next Goddess bade them.

end

Wow. What a finale. I actually thought part two was the last part, so this came as a bit of a surprise.

Portia - you are endowed indeed with the wisdom and the beauty of the written word that your illustrious predecessor must have possessed. (Searched for a hat - finds it - puts it on - doffs it to the Poetess with a deep bow!)

Thank you all very much. I was inspired, I must say. gothicmoth recommended I go to the Field Museum when I went and visited relatives in Chicago, and I must say the Egyptian exhibit took my breath away. So there was *my* muse in action.
