i'm not sure where this came from.....just something i needed to get out.....

Once upon a time
I played beneath the blooming branches
of an ancient willow tree
content beneath it's magical embrace
i dared to live my childish dreams

And as time passed
I stood beneath the gently swaying branches
of an ancient willow tree
uncertian of my life, myself
and dying to know whom I'd one day become

Soon time came to be
I leaned against the dying branches
of an ancient willow tree
reflecting on what once was
i found the strength that wise tree
once held in it's tender grasp

Forever time stands still
as golden rays of sunlight stream
though wind danced branches
I say farewell
to the innocent dreams of a child
begining my path to destiny

A beautiful poem, and a lovely image: the ageing willow tree.

*sigh* Wow! This poem is soooo good... it evokes so many feelings!  I too have stood under the willow tree (aren't they just so beautiful!?!) and thought the same things!!

A TERRIFIC poem!

Very nice...loved the imagery.

Poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings: it takes its origin from emotion recollected in tranquility.

Yes, I also liked it. Nice image. Did you ever see the book The Giving Tree? It's a childrens book but I have always loved it. Similar thoughts anyway..
It is so hard to let go of all the dreams. Wish the end of innocence would not be so painful.

Great poem! This reminds me of a Shel Silversien book I read as a child...I think it was called "The Giving Tree".....The concept of aging and loss of innocence reminded me.....Of corse I think yours is more elegantly put!

Sometimes, when I'm away, I miss some really good poetry.  I missed this one...glad I went back a few days and found it.  Hardrock
