She is mistress of the very crocodiles.
Anubis has no more command than does She.
When the night flows in from the East,
bringing with it the gentle perfumes
of the Temple incense and burning oils,
the birds grow silent and thoughtful.

She is Priestess of Sekhmet, the Lioness;
Bastet, the Cat;
even, yes, Re, the sun;
for she fiercely defends, holds dear,
and sees her children, all.

Fanned softly by a small girl
in a soft, reed boat
bearing with her the scent of ages old
cedar trees, and patchouli from the Buddha,
she drifts down the river.

She is revered. Small, dainty she is
with eyes painted kohl black, dark hair
plaited carefully, robes arranged
meticulously by the girl who keeps her rooms.
The Nile is as she feels, heavy with thought,
and solemn.

Respectfully, it is calm.
The reeds do not catch at her water-borne chariot.
The dragonflies are silent as the torches
burn in silent reflection against the water.
Even though she draws not the power
of the Gods in this moment, it is expected.
Her power draws inward, anticipating
the moment of her own stumble into tyranny.

Portia, another brilliant poem from you, very  atmospheric, wonderful description. I like it even more than the vampire one. I can't wait for part two!
You and gm share a passion for ancient Egypt, am I right?

Yes, gothicmoth reawakened a love I had, ages ago, for ancient cultures. I also find her poetry particularly inspiring. Thank you for your kind words. I was becoming a little nervous to do part two publicly.
