The Shores of Alone

0 posted 2000-07-05 09:19 PM

Stranded, together yet alone,
we stagger bedtime,
it's better that way.
I stay up, till my eyes are red
with exhaustion,
so he will be asleep
before I get there.
He goes to bed early,
to remove himself from the coldness
in this house.
When fatigue overwhelms me,
I creep in,
silently, I lay down
of the edge,
as far over as it goes.
I can touch the floor if I try.
(maybe I should just start there)
I'd sleep on the couch if I had any sense.
The principal wins out-
I should not have to give up my bed
to him.
So I hang on the edge,
in so many ways.
Waiting for a long distance rescue
that may never come.
And we remain stranded-together yet alone,
in a small piece of hell
on a queen sized bed.

Very good CatalinaMoon...captured it quite well I should say.  Reminds me of that old country song, "Sleeping Single in a Double Bed".  Thanks....Hardrock

~Oh Cat,..."So I hang on the edge, in so many ways"......So many ways.  Wow. You have let me in. The last line is brutally honest.  Awesome post. Take care please. *Peace.

Catalinamoon...You sure caught the essence in that one.  But, as they say "Hope springs eternal".  Thanks.

Poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings: it takes its origin from emotion recollected in tranquility.

-William Wordsworth-
