She has a birthday coming,
How she is looking forward to the day,
One of those special days in the year,
A day of happiness spent in a special way.

He doesn't condone it,
Says it's a waste of time and money,
That she is merely immature or greedy,
It's just another day.

Circumstances have been tough lately,
All the more reason to celebrate,
A day of surprises, love, friendship and laughter,
A day of happiness, she can't wait!

But he seems determined to let her down,
He hasn't arranged a special outing,
For she is merely a clown,
But even clowns can cry.

So it'll simply be one small gift in the morning,
That and if she is lucky a 'Happy Birthday' wish,
She deserves so much more than that,
Happiness again seems out of reach.

Those that care will show their love,
In some special little way,
But from the one who means the most,
Her birthday will be just another day.

It hurts to know he doesn't really care,
For he believes he does,
It hurts that another birthday,
Will pass with her feeling unloved...

But it matters, so much more than he realises,
Any day a chance to celebrate,
Is a day that should be welcomed,
And used to it's full advantage.

It does matter,
It is important to her,
So it should be to him,
She wants her share of happiness..

It matters, it does........

Of course it matters.  Birthdays are a celebration of the day some wonderful person entered this family of people.  But as you said...it's important because it matters to her.  Well done....well said.  Hardrock

Oh hon, that was sad, and I have been there many times. Men often don't understand how important the special times are for us. If he doesn't appreciate you we do..
It was a beautiful poem too, and if I misundertood the meaning, sorry. I am giving it my own meaning, cause I have felt that way so many times, and will again next month on my birthday.

Thanks Hardrock and CatalinaMoon.
She is partly fictional, how we all feel when a birthday is unimportant to those around us.
We do tend to feel childish etc. but we shouldn't.  The feelings are real and they do matter.
Anyones' birthday should be special, it doesn't mean diamonds or even a party, just to know you are loved and appreciated, that is never too much to wish for.

Isis,
you know in your heart that it matters deeply. . . it matters to her, it matters to us. . .

She will know soon. . .
