HOW LITTLE

A little of love and a little of air
A pinch of salt and a trace of care
Are what we need to live this life
As free as a bird from bitter strife

A little to eat and a little to drink
A book to read and time to think
A small little roof over our heads
And a little corner to lay our beds

Are some of the things we also need
These our little bodies' desires to feed
Though I suspect that the list will grow
To include a garden to walk to and fro

And of course one needs a little child
Which calls for a mother nice and mild
O fool I was to believe that I could
Be happy without a little firewood

I must stop now for I see I have failed
And joined the crowds who always wailed
For this and that and some more of this
Forgot that simplicity is the greatest bliss.

Wow, I really enjoyed the poem loved the last verse. Life is not always simple quite true.

This is excellent. We always want more and more, can't stop ourselves somehow, even if we want to.

The simple things are hardest to find.  They always scape our searching minds.  This post was a great way to say.  For which we search every day.

Great work
