"The Awakening"

In this life I seem to move
Without feeling or thought
Where will my next step land?
I stumble along...
Uncaring so it seems
Until I am faced
With my unrelenting heart
Who screams "Remember"
The floodgates open
Memories flow forth
Uninvited, Unwanted
Long blocked and hidden away
My mind feels violated
As my body once was
How do I stop the emotions?
Do I learn from them instead?
I see my choices looming before me.
One step forward, towards remembrance.
Or a step back,
Back into my own unemotional reprise.
My mind is set as I gently, cautiously
Step into my past.
Remembering.
Feeling the scars
Which have become sore once more.
Through thorns I emerge.
My legs unbroken,
I walk forth.
Anew, Whole, Reborn.

What a terrific poem!    Hmm... memories mean so much don't they?  Memories and emotions are so intertwined.  Great ending!

Very beautifully put - to carefully step into the past - so true. Ah! Could but one be born anew!

Demoninlove...
all one can do is hope... Sometimes I wonder if that is all we do have.
Thank you for your endearing words!

Memories are the kodak moments of the mind.  Only, unlike photos which tend to be two dimensional, the mind can morph, manipulate and reproduce any memory the way we WANT to see it.  And it's a good thing too...otherwise some memories are just too painful to accept.  Nice work Cyndey.   Hardrock

Thanks Jeremiah! I'm looking forward to reading some of your work as well~   It's always awesome to experience your own feelings and sometimes even your own past in someone else's work... Memories themselves are sometimes to awe-inspiring.

Hardrock... I was happy to see that you saw so much in my writing~ It's too true what you said about memories. I know from personal experience, sometimes the ones we block out, are the ones we learn so much from.

Again, thanks guys~

If I survive my emotions I'll be lucky.
