Your Hearts War

While you went out to fight the war,
I stood knocking at your door.
While you with sword and shield held high,
N’er came home, you chose to die.

You chose your battle, you chose your war,
While I stood knocking at your door.
I wanted nothing more from you,
Than fireside warmth, a cup of brew.

I could have told you ‘bout the war,
Could have showed you scars and more.
Could have told you how to win,
But you weren’t there to let me in.

We old soldiers never die,
We never flinch, we never cry.
For our scars, we learned to pay,
We live to love another day.

I came to teach you this, my friend,
But you weren’t there to let me in.
Your door you’ve locked, your window barred,
Would letting me in have been so hard?

I didn’t come your heart to steal,
I meant no harm, your soul to feel.
I know I’m old, worn out and gray,
But love will come again someday.

So while you dangle on your rope,
My heart is filled with love and hope,
Experience I wanted to share with you,
And have a laugh, drink a brew.

I stood knocking at your door,
I came as friend and nothing more.
I stood knocking at your door,
While you were fighting your hearts war.

*knock knock...be right there!*

Very good.Speaks of many things.

~So while you dangle on your rope,
My heart is filled with love and hope,
Experience I wanted to share with you,
And have a laugh, drink a brew.

I stood knocking at your door,
I came as friend and nothing more.
I stood knocking at your door,
While you were fighting your hearts war.~

These are great lines! Keep writing!

Oh Hardrock, if you came knocking at my door i would let you in.  I don't have any scars, yet i still have wounds, maybe there just not healed yet.  But the medicine of Passions is certainly making me feel good.
Rhyming see I do know how to spell it.

The imagery in this is very effective, and unfortunately just too true. How often I think to myself: why do we speak when we can't communicate? A great poem.

Maybe you just knocked on the wrong door friend...sometimes you get sore knuckles before the right door opens
