Our Puzzled Life

Like a puzzle, I try to put my life together.
So many pieces, like shattered glass,
Lie around my heart and soul.
Each piece holds a memory,
Of my life, your life, our life.
Fragments of what use to be.

Remnants of our love, thrown into the wind
Like leaves in the fall, blow away effortlessly.
Life as we have known is now over,
Colorless as the dark of night
There is no light in my eyes.
You hear no music in my laughter.

Silence has filled our world,
Quietness that no heart can bare.
Empty words, that have no meaning,
I can no longer talk to you.
For you do not hear what I say.
You do not understand my pain.

Grieving for our loss, I feel guilt,
because I am hurting you,
because I am hurting me.
But I need to be happy and you do too.
The pieces of our puzzled life
just do not  fit anymore.

~Oh how poignant this poem.  My goodness,...even just the title took my heart right away.  Very well expressed,,...yet sooo sad.  Please search for the sunshine and the music and the smile for your heart,...they're out there. Please take care. *Peace.

Across the gateway of my heart,
I wrote "No Thoroughfare!!"
But love came laughing by and
Cried "I enter everywhere!!!"

Thank-you all for your replies. Ending a relationship that has been a long one is always hard. Especially when there is pain for the one who is doing the ending. Sometimes things just are the way they are and no one is at fault.

You got to get up every morning with a smile on your face
and show the world all the love in your heart
Then people are gonna treat you better
You're gonna find, yes you will
That your beautiful as you feel.~~~ Carol King

Kitkat...I think your comment says it all: "Sometimes things just are as they are...."
