What Could I Do?

Watching all the scenes
As I wait for myself
Little kids seem to be smaller
Than ever before
And businessmen seem to have
More bloody noses than ever before
And policemen seem to be swinging more than ever before
All my dreams seem to be clouded more than ever before

What does it matter
Once in a while I guess it does
But with a mirror of reflection
At every corner we turn
Why can’t we ever learn
All we wear are satin shoes
And our pretensions have surpassed our morals
I’m in a war of sadness and anger

Can’t you hear the screaming whores in the trees?
Stuck up there eternally
Cut by all the branches that we planted
They never had a chance to live our way
Or how we think is right today
Mink coated, 5th avenue women
All laugh and point at them
While their husbands pay the carriage men

Saxophone junkies roam the streets for a quarter
And we gather round as if they were putting on a show
But I, I really know what they want
Not money, or fame, or anything to flaunt
Just a life to lead as we do without thought
It’ll never happen cause fate dominates
As far as the eye can see
But really aren’t the trees so pretty

Repeating Verse:I want to cry, I want to run, I want to burn, I want to learn
I don’t want to lose what I have
I never could understand with a father of such prestige
And a mother such a friend to the drugstore man
Sympathy was so confusing to comprehend with such neglect
It has to be to late to help… anyways what could I do?

This sounds like it was written as a song! Good job.

reading this poem makes me think about how far we have gone in the last century as a species.. but i must ask: is it for the better or for the worst?.. i look at society today and i don't see a definite answer.. good work, LenMcC1
