I knelt beside the bed
I took the hand that was so frail
I held it for awhile and just sat
Holding a hand that cared but was pale

A smile beamed up to me
Just knowing I was there
To comfort in the final hours
To be there and just to care

Though the body was weak
The eyes were so strong
Full of life were the eyes
This body should not belong

In those eyes were years ago
When youth ruled the day
Care free and endless times
Never thinking to take time to pray

Now in the twilight of life
The eyes begin to dim
They close and a story closes to
Never to be told again..........

So afraid to love you
More affraid to lose
Clinging to a past that doesnt let me choose
Once there was a darkness
Deep and endless night
You gave me everything you had
Ahhhhhhhh you gave me light!

Absolutely wonderful, and yes Welcome to Dark Passions, this is a great post, and slides in with warm hands.
Thank you, if this is from your past then my heart out to you, I have lost many.

Joel.

Welcome !!    This is a wonderful heartfelt piece I enjoyed it thoroughly.  It sadden me too!  Reminds me of a song, 'The day you went away'.  If it is from your past I'm sorry I've lost people too, my advice? Embrace their memory.  Welcome again

I'll tell you this...... No eternal reward will forgive us now for wasting the dawn.....

Wonderful!
This reminded me so much of when my mother was dying....I felt so sad and yet I rejoiced in the memories of all the good times we had shared over the years.
Welcome.
