I remember that innocent first kiss,
The joy, comfort and wonder of it all,
Two innocent five year olds,
Lots of discovery, we had a ball!!!

High school melodramas,
I don't have a boyfriend,
So and so dropped so and so,
The drama never did end!!

Leaving school, the wildness of youth,
The risks, the screaming, the fun,
Nothing would slow me down,
Nothing would stand in my way, revelled in life under the sun.

Moonlight romps upon the beach,
Suggested flashes at passers by,
We laughed, we played, we dreamed,
Under the Southern Cross's sky.

Driving late at night,
With wind in the hair,
Never a problem,
Never a care.

The innocence of youth,
The silly things we dared,
The stupid things we did,
And we didn't really care.

We have to grow up sometime,
Have to take responsibility,
We have to realise that things in life aren't free,
We have to work towards our goals both financially and emotionally.

We don't take those risks anymore,
But with some losses come gain,
As adults we have a much better understanding,
Of life, heartache, love and pain.

Sure I miss those wild days,
They will never return again,
But I can revisit them anytime,
With a walk down memory lane.

There is an old Aussie song,
Entitled, "I wish I was 17 again!'
And most of the time I wish I was,
To enjoy life that way again.

But with age and responsibility,
Comes love, marriage, home and children,
These too are precious moments in life,
And I shall not hurry through them!!!

Nice poem isis.
But some of us do find those lost years again fro real, when we are older, although we go through a lot of pain to get there.
But you are right about families. We shouldn't "hurry through them"...we should enjoy them. And through our children, maybe we can relive some of those old days again?

*sigh*  Hmm... evokes some memories for me there Isis! Liked this.  And true... we can always wander down memory-lane whenever we have the inclination.  And, best of all, when we are old and grey and reflecting on the past, we will have wonderful memories of our "family" life too

Isis, really enjoyed reading this poem. I think you have written something that touches a memory in all of us.
Ah, the days of youth, gone to soon.
~~nice writing~~

I hate to be misquoted!!  We can always have that zest for life, that enthusiasm etc.  But we cannot ever catch the depth of the wildness of youth again, it still remains but is never quite as strong as it used to be.
Honestly you can't flirt, take risks etc to the extreme you did in your youth when you have a young family.  You cannot get drunk when you have responsiblilites etc.
Perhaps when the children are grown and have left home you feel the same way as you did in your youth but even then you don't take such risks again, you are wiser then.
Anyways,I'll finish by saying I love my youth and the person I was then, but I love myself and who I am today even more

I'll tell you this...... No eternal reward will forgive us now for wasting the dawn.....

Geepers creepers, Isis a bunch of us seem to be walking down memory lane, this is spooky. hahaha
All I've go to say about my youth is I was lucky to have lived through it. for real.

love the walk down the lane although.

love ya kid.

Joel.

I howl a mournful song, that echos within my chambered heart, for all to read? nay for all to feel.

I too miss the recklessness of youth..part of which is not knowing the outcome of our actions.  Life is a lot smoother when you dont take as many risk, but you lose that confidence that comes from not knowing››››
    A good read!
