A Poem For Lydia

Somewhere here, no please listen
see, the birds, the frog, the blossomed tree,
to breathe , to feel
to be a part of this
the wind, the hills
the splashing sun
the remembering, the forgetting
the things about
almost, but no
the truth lies there
just below the broken ground
no words to speak
the silent dead
scalded tears melting heart
puddled muddled drownding eyes
raw despair and screams of blood
quivery shivery sunless soul
so hard the cold
so hard the air
so very hard to breath.
the sky, the stars, nothings changed
but nothing will ever be the same
since they buried your sister
with her baby in her arms.

forrest cain

for lydia whose sister(nine months pregnant)was murdered( execution style by drug dealers for no good reason at all)
Lydias fourteen and her eyes have the look of one whose survived the holocaust.
I fear for her life.

This poem is so terrible (in the sense of sad!!!). I am so sorry for your friend!
What makes this piece work so well for me is the contrast between beautiful nature and cruel fate, no joy can be found from these things when we know of such pain and misery! How can the sublime exist beside evil?  Also the almost fragmented-chain-of-consciouness style of the poem conveys the desperation of the speaker.

 Lotharingia
"For God's sake, he's a poet. Poets are meant to feel miserable. Otherwise, what the hell are they here for? What are they going to write about?"

Thanks very much for sharing my pain.
Lotharingia you understood it perfectly.
Click your comments were very touching.
Thanks for your caring  and reading.
It was a bad summer for me. My best friend committed suicide a few weeks later after this he just couldn`t deal with any more pain. I have posted a poem about his suicide
in critical forums. You may need to go back a month or so to find it, also one called the hickory casket the first being titled the memory of trees.

Thanks forrest
