ok..  Thanks for reading..
You all know me, don't you?  Have one of you ever seen me mad?  No?  Cos I don't get mad often, unless it is really warranted.  Guess what? I'm mad
I'm sick of the lack of responding here in dark.
Friends only answering friends work(you know who you are), not responding to other's work.  Not encouraging fellow poets etc.  This forum is turning into a pack of lazy whingers, get with the programme!!!!!!!!!
We must all answer a few poem's daily, not just our friends.
We are to post NO more than 2 poems in the dark forum within a 24 hour time span.
All of you know these rules and I'm sick of having to remind you all to be fair to each other.  Come on.
I know some of you adore Dark as much as Michael and I do, but if Dark is generally slack, we could lose it.  Then where would we be able to right dark/angry/hurt stuff.
Come on guys pull your finger out.  If I have to start personally emailing some of you, I will.  I don't want to but I will.
Let's all work together and make the dark forum sing with poetry and responses.
Announcements and comments are for the alley or Announcemtents not here in Dark.
Come on guys you are only inadvertantly letting yourselves down.
Shape up!!!
Isis
P.S.  I expect this to be answered by everyone!!

Walters Rules of posting

1 when adding a poem to the site always reply to at least 2 others

2 any poet with a first post or/and any 0 reply posts get priority

3 anyone replying to your own gets replied to next (in case of numerous replys To anyone who i miss i try to catch up on)

4 any poem that catches my eye (good titles etc)

5 any poets i know i like

these rules i find are effective even if i only have time to do the first to.

it's a shame that reminders such as this pop up every two to three months. i reply to at LEAST five poems whenever i come on. especially if i post. and i usually go for new poets, poems with few responses, and then to poet's that i know. so it usually ends up being more than five. and i will keep on doing that.
anyway, thanks for the much needed reminder. i would hate to see this forum get closed. it has become a sort of sanctuary to me, as this is the only place where i put my deepest feelings on display. i rarely show what i post here to anyone i know. most people don't even know that i write poetry.

I agree with everything you are saying Isis. I've only been here a short time, but I love this place. From now on, when I post a new poem, I will make it my policy to respond to 5 others...giving priority to those with 0 responses. I too need a good kick in the pants from time to time.

Isis, you go girl!  You are so right!
When something needed to be brought to attention you do it and you get peoples attention!  Thank you because I too have been noticing this lack.

I know I am not the best at replying to everyone's poetry but I MAKE SURE that whenever I post a piece of my own I reply to at least 3 people's poetry or more.  And when I am only here for a short time and can't post anything I like to reply to as many poems as I can because that is what being a part of Dark Passions and Passions in general is.  Showing support!  Lets not fall apart guys and girls!!!  If we all do our part we will all end up feeling good!
Thanks again Isis!

I respond to all of these that you post Isis and once again....forgive my lack of posts...but it is not that I am not posting responses , I have not been here to post at all...anything at all. I too like Walters rules.
When I do post I always post a response to at lease 3 other poems here. I find that only respectfully, besides, I love every one words here and appriciate all of them. Not just some/friends....I am not one to post on certain ppl's work to begin with, for I do not know any one here....so I post on all ppls.
Many thank you for the words Isis....

Isis I am so very, very sorry that I haven't been responding. I thought that I'd be back for awhile or atleast have more time to read poems and reply to them. But I really haven't. Usually if I didn't have time when I got home I'd read and reply to them in my computer class but in order to do all of that you have to be done all of your work....which I wasn't. But I promise I'll try to come around more often. It's just that I've got a lot things to be doing and way too much on my mind right now. I'd miss Dark very, very much if we lost it so please don't think that I am just being selfish. I have just been having a difficult time to say the least....but I'll try to come on more often.

I know we are all busy and I can appreciate that.  I myself have a very very busy four year old!!
It's just a little reminder and yes maybe a threat that I will be watching much more!!
I had to laugh at Walter's Golden Rules the way you put it made me smile Walter.
Jesse I know you are having problems, just when you are here is what I'm referring too.
If you are away sick or whatever you cannot post I realise that, though when you are here get to it!
Munda, thanks you are a good girl aren't you?
StarGazer thanks hon, every bit helps.
Sea - Icq is the ultimate chatting enhancement for computers, you can email, message, live chat everything.  Big download but well worth it.  So many Passions poets are in it.
Yes JML you are a good boy, but if you want a spanking it can be arranged!! LOL *wink*
Creature of course UNI comes first, but now you are back, things will get better even quicker!
Demonic Angel so sorry to hear about your Dad, my bio Dad is quite ill himself.  Hard times.  Just do what you can hon.
Jannel and Danni thanks guys I know you guys are doing ok.
Jonas thanks too hon.
Joy glad you agree with the kick in the pants here, and glad you saw that it was needed.  Thanks hon.
And once again thanks to JanetMarie for your help and concerns and beginnings of a friendship.
Thanks also A-Alibaster and Dark Enchantress, things pile up I know but we all needed a kick up the bum too.
THANKS EVERYONE.
P.S.     There are still a few more who can respond!!!!!

Ok, time to send this back to the top.
I have hard time finding original things to say, and I have a fear of repeatiing myself.   Seriously, I agree with you here, Isis.  It seems like last week that I was reading archives on what to do with people that post too much and do not reply enough.  Your rules are right on, and I, too, try to reply to 3 poems as well, every time I log on.  However, I post in other forums as well, and sometimes I just neglect DP.  So sorry, all.  Will try harder to reply more often.

Isis,

I am new to Passions period, and especially to Dark Passions. Only been posting in DP about a week and Passions for about a month.  I am glad that you made this point though. Me and another Passions member had been discussing this very thing last week. And we both agreed that it had been getting pretty "slack" in here. I know that if I noticed that in a week, then something must be going on. I personally respond to as many poems as I can, and I especially respond to new poets and ones with few responses. I also respond to those whose work I have come to know and love. I really love this place, its like a second home to me. I am glad that we all got this wake up call. I would severely miss this place if it was to go away.

I think I come here almost everynight when it gets quiet at work and just sit and read all of the wonderful poetry but I rarely post and I apologize for that.... I guess I'm just a silent observer.lol  But look, I'm posting .  If I had a computer at home and didn't have to glance over my shoulder to make sure my supervisor wasn't around when I'm reading poetry, I swear, I would post more... but for now, my few and far between, 'WOW the talent here is endless' posts will have to do!!  Au Revoir!!

I read and I can dig it...sometimes I go to favorites if I don't have much time..but not always...I don't believe so anyways..some poets just seem to know my heart and have won my heart.   You know like we are going thru the same things or have similar experiences.    James

if all you are asking is the best we can do then the best i can do is replying to a few poems a week tops.  with a full time hectic job and a full time hectic 15 month old, im lucky to get to get in here and enjoy myslef reading the poetry i do get to read in here.  i love to read but alot of times i dont have time to reply and i rarely ever post anything.  im sorry, even though i rarely get to come in here i was like, "she's talkin to me."  you made me feel bad    but in all honesty im doing the best i can, sorry if its not enough.  i certainly do not want to lose this place.

Isis,
Well, I'm pretty new to this forum, and I don't get a chance to get on here much due to my job. But I do like the poems I've had a chance to read. I am in the company of some great 'artists of the written word'.
when I have time to be on here, I will do my best to respond to the work of my fellow poets, provided that I can think of something non-repetitive to say, esp. when posting a new poem, which I plan to complete very soon.

your point is well taken.
Cheers! -Sparks.

I agree with you 100% to what you have said. I am new here and I also have my own poetry club that I made a rule that commenting is the number one issue. We the poets must have feed back to what we write so we can learn from the readers to what they like and dislike. This will make us, the poets, better in what we write and give us a clear understanding to the needs of the reader. Thank you for making this a point and to be honest, what got me to see your message was the number of comments.

Your Poet Friend,

Thanks everyone, old and new members, there have been so many responses now I can't answer them all!!
But Aimmee please now I am not picking at anyone personally.  I know how rough it is with a little one, Dylan had severe reflux when young.. I understand.
I'm just asking the lazies to be more thoughtful etc.
We all need the reminder occasionally.  This is the third time (I THINK) that I have posted an announcement such as this.

Well, I suppose I am guilty of not responding every day. I do own a company and have things to tend to here at home as well. I apologize if I am not up to standards with responses. I do try though, and when I respond it is not to just "friends", considering I do not know any here...I repond to all in general!
Thanks for the yell...and sorry to have disturb any if I have.

I personally try to reply to at least two or three other poems for every one that I post.  I don't post many, so I don't get around much.  I totally agree, though.  People need to feel reasured that thier poetry is read.

hey isis!!!!!  hear hear is all i can say!! but i have a question for you.  i find that there are those rare times i write a happier poem, do you mind if i post those here to? i feel it is a family here, and want to you all to see what the support and encouragement has done for me.  just a question!!  anyway, another personal rule of mine, i always respond to first time posters.  i feel they are taking a big step, and need that encouragement and acceptance from the very beginning.  i love you girl!!  thank you thank you thank you for helping us keep this place.

I'm new here and I want to say I respect any one brave enough to say what they think and feel.  For years I wrote how I felt in a note book with a pad lock on the binder(a real big Master lock) And there are only 2 people I have let read of it.
My wife read it about 8 years ago and said she liked 'em even if they tended to be on the dark side. But, today I wrote one for all to see!! I haven't written for a long time (haven't been sad enough I guess) and now I need to let some things go....so please bear with us amatures as we stumble through this world together.

Hiya! Well, I must confess sometimes I read a poem and it moves me so much that I can't find the words to respond   And ehem  , I hardly ever read any rules  , so I am guilty of posting more than two within 24 hours.  Sorry!   I will certainly try to rectify my naughty ways - and respond to other poets more often.  I promise!    I love it here!

I post a reply when something moves me. I would rather people respond to my poems only when they enjoy it-- not because they feel obligated.

Sometimes I write a poem, and might not reply to any on that day. It's simply because I either didn't read anything or because I just plain won't give the literary equivalent of, "Uh... yeah, honey, that dress looks.... really nice." If someone else thinks the "dress" looks fine, then fine. My opinion doesn't make or break another poet's piece. But I certainly hope no one else sacrifices their real opinion of *my* work for the sake of meeting some post-a-day criterion.

I have never posted more than two poems a day, even when I was writing a short epic (and could easily have posted it all in one screen).

We have all seen the rules bent, broken, ignored. Anywhere you get more than one person in a place on the internet, you are bound to see this happen. The best we can do is have tolerance and avoid personal conflict. (Which, unfortunately, I have also seen.) Ego is an ugly thing, I will admit that from personal experience.

Errrm ... I can't say I noticed this one until today. But I don't think it applies to me anyway, since I love replying to other peole's stuff. Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong!

Hey Portia - don't sweat the little stuff.  Being here at Passions is supposed to be fun, and my understanding of the rules is that they are more guidelines of common courtesy

(disclosure statement: I am not speaking for the moderators nor the owner of this site - merely from my experience here as a longlived member)

than strict rules of compliance.  The idea is that you show others the courtesy of actually reading and sharing in thier work and discussions as well as express yourself in your work - for others to enjoy.

I find it unlikely that you will be evicted for not responding to two posts daily, or posting three poems in a given day - if that does happen, let me know and we'll rage against the machine together.

enough from me on this subject for now... you may want to keep an eye out for further comment in THE ALLEY (which is the appropriate forum for this discussion.)

P.S.  I used the colon p for Passions and it works wonderfully!  Saved me, I don't know, 80-90 keystrokes.....  Thanks Ron

Hmmmmm way out of left field. I didn't see Portia's post as her needing to calm down. I saw her as saying that the guidlines have become rules.
"We must all answer a few poem's daily, not just our friends.
We are to post NO more than 2 poems in the dark forum within a 24 hour time span.
All of you know these rules and I'm sick of having to remind you all to be fair to each other."
Is this a group of friends discussing poetry or a support group? I'm getting confused.

Gothicmoth,
To an extent I really think it is a bit of both. A lot of the poems here are very personal ones in which the authors express their emotions, anxieties, or talk about things that are troubling them, and by commenting on them you will inevitably be making some kind of statement about that person. By nature, I tend to presume that poems are fictional (since most of mine are), but after you've been here a while you realise that that isn't really that often the case.

JP-- I never said I wasn't enjoying myself! if I weren't, I would leave. No point in mentioning any of this if I don't want to be here!

But gothicmoth is right, the rules are *rules* as stated by Isis. That's fine. The fact that rules get broken is fine too. I understand that. As long as it gets caught in time to keep it from getting out of hand.

I wasn't really concerned about being "evicted." I am pretty sure some people here have more than one identity anyway. This seems to be a pretty laid back forum-- that's why I was surprised by this post in the first place.

As for being the appropriate forum for this discussion-- since it was broached by Isis and carried on to a whopping 62 posts (including this one) I would say, since it pertains directly to this forum, that this is quite appropriate.

Just clarifying. I don't want anyone thinking I don't like it here, and I wasn't really upset, I just didn't see the point in saying I would "change my ways" or "do better" when what I do here is what I would do anywhere   .

As for discussing feelings as a catharsis, that, too, I can understand. But since I haven't had time to really get to know everyone, it would be presumptuous of me to assume that Poem X is about Poet Y's personal problem with Subject Z. In every literary course I have ever taken through the undergraduate level, we were taught that the poem is not the poet. Of course we all know that's not hard and fast-- anyone who says their life doesn't influence their work is either fibbing or is totally unaware of their own issues  . But I hate to assume...

That's all... I'm done

I have not been here for a few days now. But I will start posting replies though. I think that the other poets need that to know that people are actually reading what they post. And it is always good for the poet when they know what others think of their work.

You're absolute right, Isis, and I'm as guilty of it as anyone, I found myself automatically going to Open, frankly because I felt some of My own poems of late, were not "dark" enough, but I should have been responding to those in pain, because believe me, it's still there, and we all have pain. This forum has been good to me, I began here, at the dark passions, wanting to express myself and found welcoming arms, who did not flatter, but uplifted, and encouraged.
we all needed this, and I expect and hope to see thousands of posts to this thread. thank you

Why is every so easy to anger or quick to take offense?  I've been a member of Passions since its inception and have seen my share of turmoil (okay, I have stirred the pot a few times as well   ), but some of this is ridiculous.  I will leave the *rules* discussion to Isis from now on, this forum belongs to her now.

One other thing, just so everyone understands the reality of Dark Passions, or any other forum here at PiP - not everyone here writes poetry that is a reflection of their state of mind, or how they feel, or what they are going through, or any of that.  Poetry is not always a reflection of one's soul or a form of therapy.  Yes, often it is... but to assume that someone writes a poem about loneliness just because they're lonely is limiting them and oneself. Personally I find THAT rather offensive.

P.S.  Isis/Michael, move this response to The Alley, or delete it if you feel it is out of place here...

Oh if only you had said this earlier, JP. "Poetry is not always a reflection of one's soul or a form of therapy.  Yes, often it is... but to assume that someone writes a poem about loneliness just because they're lonely is limiting them and oneself."
Thank you. I agree.

Well quite frankly I find myself disturbed by the last dozen or so posts, I'm actually shaking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am NOT saying anyone is bad, naughty, wrong and NOT picking on ANYONE personally.
Also JP this is not my forum or Michael's it is Ron's I merely moderate it.
Rules/guidelines the line is fine, doesn't matter what we call them, they are what is expected of one and all..  We try to abide by them to make our forum and all forums run as smoothly as possible.
SOme poetry is a reflection of how one is feeling sometimes it is merely made it up.  It is not up to us to judge anyone's work, just leave a friendly word or two to say we appreciate the poem, the thought, the idea, the feelings etc.
This post originated months ago if you care to check so I am not saying the forum is bad NOW it was however questionable then when I originally posted this.
No one will EVER be evicted from passions for not responding enough EVER!!!  You have to be really mean, callous, horrible and rude for that to happen and I mean awful!!!!!!  Thankfully such conflicts rarely happen.
JP I must add if you have a problem with my comments I would prefer an email privately this is not the place ....  Also I think here is the correct place to post a notice to the dark forum members concerning our forum.  If it was a general thing I would certainly post it in the alley or whatever.
If this post is going to continue being a problem I will delete it.
Thanks one and all.
