Being in a long term relationship which has not really been all that good, I have been feeling depressed and lonely for a long time. I then found someone who I reached out to, and I thought I could help me get rid of my pain. When we first started going out intimately, I told her that it might be a difficult relationship. A few days ago I hurt her really badly I said so many things I wish I hadn't said. I wish I could get her back, but I think it may be too late. I sent her this poem I wrote hoping that she can see that I am truly sorry.

Pain is Stronger than Love
by Me

You start a life together
with great hopes and dreams
life is not what it seems
you begin to learn to live with pain

For such a long time
I have felt this despair
I keeps me alone, I go nowhere
I sink deeper into the darkness

Then I met you a glimmer of hope
I guess I needed to reach out for someone
but this can't be real, I dont belong
it can't be real I am betraying my pain

The darkness is comfortable, I'm used to it now
afraid to let go I slip back there again
there is something about it, I'm addicted to the pain
it forces me to let you go, I had to push you away

Once you learn to live a life of lies
a world of illusions I can't deny
no one understands, I just want to fly
away from here to a better place

I sometimes wish I could see you again
impossible love, I can't handle it
you told me you could

You were wrong
Pain is stronger than love

I know exactly how you feel.  My recent poetry is centered around the exact same thing.  It seems that we both know the pain of hurting someone else.  Stick in there, it'll get better and the pain will dim.

Hi tac and welcome here! Your poem is full of emotion and I love it. However, if you'd excuse me mixing in (I can't help myself) it sounds a bit too defeatist to get someone back. The lines
You were wrong
Pain is stronger than love

Make it sound like it is definitively over.

You have to make her know you love her, make her feel like there is a sense in your relationship, you have to trust her, believe in her, try to defeat your fear of being hurt. Relationships can cause so much pain, but never give up! When you find someone who loves you no matter what it's really worth it, and you should do your best to stop past hurts from destroying the possibility of future happiness!

BTW, more poems, please!

Thanks guys for your replies and encouragement. This is my first attempt at poetry.

I've never been one to show or even talk about my feelings. I have never really openend up to anyone.

I don't know how my relationships are going to turn out. I am still in my old one, which is not good (She is very indifferent about our future together). I long for a new one with that special someone I mentioned in the poem. I am really afraid I messed it up with very little chance of repair.

I will keep writing as I get inspired. This forum can really help open up a window to my soul, so I can resolve these feeiings.

BTW, lotharingia

I know that's the way it sounds; But that's the way I feel, the easy way out is to stay in familiar territory [something inside me still wants to push her away]

I need to work on opening up my heart and letting her know that (all in due time)

Firstly welcome!!  Hon you can always express yourself here, we will always respect your thoughts and feelings.  Writing as we do is a kind of therapy too, for undiscovered paths and feelings... we call it venting.
Vent away, I enjoyed this poem a lot and hope your venting will help soothe your soul and hope the lady in question understands you a little better after she reads this..

I'll tell you this...... No eternal reward will forgive us now for wasting the dawn.....

Excellent writing..you can only be who you are and where you are.   If she honestly cares for you she will be back around..you can't scare love away...sometimes we do scare people away if we live in our past too much or have to many problems...so keep working on healing and accepting yourself and hopefully she will accept you and be their for you and with you...best of luck.   James

Nice exploration of the rut of our own despair.  Seems that what we are used to is the most comfortable, even if it is pain and loneliness... a rut one would do well to pull themselves out of I think.

Hi guys, I just wanted to thank you for all the fine words of encouragement, I am still working on getting ack my impossible love. She is still quite pissed at me but at least we talked. She didn't say a lot, but at she listened. (gives me some hope)

Thanks, for the post Kynder, I showed it to her and she almost seemed like she liked the idea of what you said. (perhaps she will forgive me at least).

This seems to say what you want to say quite well!!  I hope she understands!!  This is a wonderful poem!!  I can relate to how one can hold sooo dearly to the pain!!  Hang in there and do not lose hope!!

Tac, you have a great passion within, and only you can decide to turn it to what you want, but try this out, you have it within you to put not only your poetry to the lighter side in finding what she is to you, what she can mean to you, to your hopes yo
dreams, That’s just in poetry, and you can do the same in person, it's called finding the light. If she is a ray of sunshine then blend with it.

her light will not shine in the dark.

WELCOME!!!! And I must say an excellent first poem!    I think pain is something we all endure at one time or another.  Yet getting over it is something that seems to be more difficult that breathing itself.  As for me.... I wont and cant give any advise.  I am still trying my best to overcome mine    Keep up the good work.... and always remember to smile!

Peace
