DARKNESS

Darkness is a river,
It carries me away.
Lost in isolation,
I watch my soul slowly decay.
Teased by a subtle numbness,
My brain through silence screams
Over the unconscious border
Of reality and dreams.

Stars in twilight twinkle
Across the witless skies.
The hands of heaven sprinkle
Seeds of hope before blind eyes.
Till the sun, in relished power,
Hides all in the hell of day,
And glory rises in the shadows
Of illusion and disarray.

Ambiguity corrupts the masses,
Subdues our every thought.
Lifeless veins are empty
In corpses that dare not rot.
Driven on by fear, by hopelessness,
And sheltered by the past;
We grip life through dead memories,
Forcing the love to last.

Till sorrow overcomes us
In clouds of obscurity.
Till tomorrow has vanished
With innocence and purity.
Till Vanity's proclamation
Comes like the clarion of Hate.
Till all that's left is death,
But still you have to wait.

Emptiness, an aching chasm,
Unadorned to Time -
The pining of the spirit
To an unrecognized chime -
The decrepit embrace of Destiny,
Passion, an uncried tear -
A droplet of water, a river run still,
A darkness that holds me here.

No one writes Darkness like this M,
no one could, no one should, but ...(life happeneds)
this is simply stunning in its depth,
rhyme, and dark shadowed beauty.
perfect choice to reflect your work in the book.

Very good work, not quite the bottom but it can be seen from there.

me five

Yes, I am here, but I am dead, not alive,
my body goes on, my spirit has died
and I though alive, feel dead inside.

Michael; I've been to this place and by God's grace it is a past memory. You have described it perfectly and with a wonderful poetic flow. Ellie

Summers haunting melody
that awakens
the butterflies,
calling them to join
the dance
in their silent song
of praise to God.

Thank you all for the kind replies.  This is my "signature" poem to an extent, I guess, as well as a personal favorite.  So glad you enjoyed.

How lovely is thy Darkness --
How strange and sweetly blessed --
A midnight crown of shadows
Which on thy brow doth rest.

How haunting is thy music --
A breath of living night --
The sure and whispered beating
Of raven-wings in flight.

Darkly beautiful, my love.  No pun intended.
