I looked at the Garden
Through rose colored glasses
And through these eyes
I could clearly see there was beauty.

I looked at the garden
Seeing colors so bright
Sparkle and shine
A beauty in light

I looked at the garden
A wondered what would be
If I removed these rose glasses
Allowing me to see

That my vision was hindered
Not clear and true
Shaded from darkness
Clouded from view

I saw what I wanted
Not what was ahead
Imagined it gleaming
Was dying instead

Decaying before me
I covered the pain
Used rose colored visions
To cover the stains

I now admit madness
Give in to the sane
No rose colored glasses
To keep out the rain.

Accept the deflection
For clearly I’ll see
That what I was seeking
Was really in me

Lovely work here--a study of self-realization...reminds me of Joni Mitchell's words...

"We are stardust,
we are golden,
and we've got to get ourselves
back to the garden..."

Great poem! The garden is inside of us. It's the only reality, Ellie

Summers haunting melody
that awakens
the butterflies,
calling them to join
the dance
in their silent song
of praise to God.

Lovely work spike, being a landscaper myself, I love gardening comparisons.  You have pulled this one off (glasses) nicely.

Well, Spiky, we all need to sit down, and think about ourselves, that's what I always do, you have realized your feelings well.. I would like to share a corner of your garden as well, good stuff.

- James
The beauty of nature is displayed,
not through itself,
but through the creatures
dwelling within its bosom.
