~To Hold A Butterfly~

He said "Hold me before I go baby ...
and promise me you wont cry,"
so I held him like it was forever, and I promised ...
though we both knew it was a sweet lie.

He said "Love me while Im gone baby" ...
and thru my tears, all I could do was smile.
He had heard the angels calling his name ...
we both knew we only had a little while.

So I held him even closer ...
and I tried to quiet all his doubt.
I kissed away his tears that fell ...
from too many years of doing without.

I said "I will always love you baby,
this you already know."
Then he taught me how to hold on to love ...
while still learning to let go.

And I learned there are some wounds ...
that even love cant heal.
And I learned unconditional love ...
was gentle, genuine, and real.

I said "I don't just love you baby ...
I love you desperately."
This kind of love is forever ...
it is born of fate and destiny.

So we held each other tighter,
and we let not one single emotion go unspoken.
We learned this love was constant ...
this bond could not, would not ever be broken.

And I learned that this kind of love ...
could truly set a heart free.
And while I was loving him ...
he taught me ... how to love me.

Sometimes Fate grants you a gift ...
and it gives your life its destination.
And along the way ...
you find your self and your heart's inspiration.

Everything indeed ... happens for a reason ...
something's are simply and sweetly just ~meant to be~.
So I loved him like it was my last chance,
and when the time came ... I set my butterfly free.

I have 2 poems submitted here and was very content and grateful for the wonderful replies and support.
In the last week since this new forum went up I have been overwhelmed with E-mails
asking me why I had not submitted this one.
To those of you who took the time to write me and request this,
and most of all support and understand my need to honor this beautiful man --
who touched my life so sweetly...even tho you never knew him...
(other than thru my poetry in the past 6 months)
For this --I thank you from my poets heart.
This place is magic.

JM, this is a beautiful poem. It brought me to tears. I'm glad you were able to set your butterfly free.

Damn, I love this poem. If this doesn't get published, Butterfly Slippers, there's no justice in the world. But we already knew that.   I have a feeling this will get published anyway.

Jan; Iloved this the first time I read it and love it even more the second time around.
Magnificent! Bravo! Love, Ellie

calling them to join

JM-This is such a tremendous treasure of a pure love.  I ache for your loss but in turn rejoice knowing that you have been given a gift that will last for all eternity.  It is not one that all can share and for you I smile because you deserve these memories.
