For the official dedication of the memorial on the fifth anniversary of the bomb.  April 19, 1995 The lone Survivor Tree stands quiet guard, A chain link fence defends the sacred ground, Mementos left to lives forever scarred, Foreboding sense of death looms all around. Our fundamental hopes and dreams were shaken, The innocent, the babes, the frail, the strong, The hundred sixty-eight whose lives were taken, Extinguished by a zealot's deed so wrong. But Oklahoma City stood with pride, Example fit for all to emulate, We'll not succumb to terror, run or hide Subdued by such a senseless act of hate. We cover not with shame our solemn face But pride to consecrate this hallowed place. Many thanks to all of you who have responded. The bombing and the recent dedication of the memorial were both truly emotional events. I only hope that we have all learned a little from this senseless tragedy. Thanks all, Pete |
