Alone At Last

Left alone at last my love,
you hold my hand so tight.
The doctor gave his last report,
I've lost this mortal fight.

I feel my life slipping away;
see that truth in your eyes.
You watch me with such tenderness
to count my breathless sighs.

The last few months has made me glad,
to leave this cancerous place.
And the last thing I want to see in this life
is your sweet and smiling face.

With a moan I take my last breath
my eyes tell you it is so
and closing
forever
in this
life

I watch you
let
me
go.

Oh boy ... tears starting here Poet deVine! Beautiful sentiments, and the format trailing off at the end makes such a dramatic and emotional closing.  Crying and clicking now ... (loved it)

Best wishes,
/Kit

Yes, a heart touching sentiment. And the format, trailing off at the end does add a great deal. Thanks.

Sharon...

silence...

Wow.

The way you trailed the words off at the end... wow. I'm struck speechless. I may even have a tear rolling down my face.

*sniffle* it seems that you've uncovered the most sentimental of all my fearful thoughts... that of leaving the one i love and seeing the tears in her eyes... stirring and beautifully melancholy... just what i love in poetry...

PdV - Wow...This is such an incredible poem.  As I've just come in from saying my last goodbyes to a dear friend, the tears are flowing freely.  This is just so beautiful.  Bonnie

My mom HAD breast cancer, and the thought of her death had always crossed my mind, but now through Gods healing she no longer has cancer!
But I pray and feel for all those who have lost a loved one like this and who will loose one, this poem reflects those last few minutes of life! sad but lovely poem!
