Three Little Girls sitting on the edge of the old wooden porch, swinging their sunburned legs back and forth, back and forth. Whispering to each other through cupped hands, the secrets that little girls treasure. And I, the intruder, peer unseen from behind the dusty window of the general store, cradling my bag of groceries close to my chest, as if it were the carefree and innocent spirit of my youthful days, reborn. I yearn to join their magic circle giggling and chattering, in a long-forgotten language that only a child can understand. To revisit, if only for a moment, that enchanting world of green grass and blue skies, jump ropes and ice cream cones. Where palaces are filled with unbroken dreams and the sweet promise of everything beautiful and fair, lies waiting to be discovered. |

I liked this muchly....I yearn for a daughter so much, but since I have only sons, I too..resort to spying on these beautiful mysetrious creatures God calls little girls..... Awesome! ~Heather |

I loved this one Debbie It was the details that made this so special for me: the fact that the legs were sunburned legs and not just legs, the cupped hands when they whispered and the palaces filled with unbroken dreams. Beautiful Eric |

I don't know about you, but I'm GLAD my childhood is over. It's the whole "grass is always greener" syndrome. Do children want to be children? No, they want to be treated more adult. Do adults want to be adults? No, they want to "recapture their youth." I say, live your youth every day. Screw regrets. A much more stable-than-childhood Mike P.S. Enjoyed the poem. |
