Autistic shackles hold your little tongue
From telling me the punch line of the joke
That caused your fits of laughter to provoke
Excited happy tears.  You’ve never sung
Your favorite Barney song, and when you clung
To me that winter night when you awoke
To fearful, bitter sobs, you never spoke
A word of what tormented one so young.
Although autistic shackles bind your speech,
Your love is blazoned on your beaming smile.
Although I missed the punch line of that jest,
I laughed myself to happy tears.  And each
Dark night when you awake and fears defile
Your sleep, in Daddy’s arms you'll find your rest.

This is such a tender and loving poem Jbouder.  Though he may wear the veils of "autistic shackles", such wondrous gifts your son bestows to you. Your love and pride shine deeply through your words in this tribute to your son.

Best wishes,
/Kit

I love this one...someday would you trek over to the Announcments Forum and update us on your son? Last time you told us about the change in diet and what it was doing...we'd really like an update Jim.

This is a very moving tribute for your son.  You convey your own emotions toward the situation excellently (I wonder if that's a word...doesn't sound like one, but I like it anyway).

dear jbouder,
how absolutely touching and wonderful it must be to have a father that so adeptly and willingly tells of his love for his son... this is a beautiful piece and it's got my vote for the book...

sincerely,

This is one of the most loving poems I have ever read, and brought tears streaming down my face , again. The poem and the father and the son are all the best!
