I look at the lights
here in the heart of the city
so many of them, here and there
filling the buildings
shining in the night
what stories do they tell?
what secrets do they hold?

my lights shine into the park
they seem to shine alone from
this building
late into the night
telling their story

no shadows play on the wall
save my own
is this the way it's supposed to be?
am I to be a shadow of myself?
alone
for none to see?
or am I to fill that shadow with
my presence?
and what presence will I fill it
with?

so many lights
so many stories
who tells them all?
it's Wednesday night here in the heart of the city

the lights still shine. . .

Sven, shadows and stories are neat things to contemplate...I wish I had answers. I enjoyed your thoughts here.

I am really liking this series you are putting together here Sven.  I like this type of poetry from you.  It is clearly showing a different side of you.

Sven...
This is one that I will keep at the top of my list. I have lived in the country, but I think I love the big city the most. I do enjoy the night lights, and the way you wrote this touched off some great memories.
          Thank you.......

Sven,

The lights do shine very brightly in the city.  If those building could tell their tales, I am sure we would be captivated by them.  I hope you know, you are never really alone my friend.  I like this.  You are stretching yourself . . . nice job.

I believe those lights of yours will never dim Sven only get brighter as you grow and glow more!!  A somewhat lonely and melancholy look at life, well written as always

A very interesting stretch...so we're waiting for some of the stories from the lights that shine...you know, from that building, just over there...with that lonely figure in the window, staring out in nothing...go with it Sven!

Sven

I used to live in Oslo...And whenever I was feeling sad or just had alot on my mind I walked the streets of this big cold city at nights...Then one day it came to me that the city actually is quite beautiful with all its secrets and different faiths it holds...Your poem reminded me of this and I thank you for it...
