This is one of the first poems I wrote. Mr. Yeats reminded me of it with his lovely poem of the seasons

A BREATH OF AUTUMN AIR

The air today is brisk and crisp and fresher than before
Could this be autumn sneaking in and knocking on my door?
Conjuring up memories of my favorite autumn things
That make my heart anticipate the splendor fall will bring?

The smell of orchard apples, of peaches being canned
The aroma of fresh pumpkin pie, the walnuts and pecans
Crimson maples, golden oaks, deep bronze and umbered mums
A glorious blaze of autumn hues in scarlet, gold and plum

Lovely red and orange berries joining autumn folly
Pyracantha, bittersweet and late November holly
Geese in asymmetric patterns navigating space
Proudly pointing out their course to winter’s feeding place

Robins, wrens and swallows, vacating roosts and nests
Little squirrels scampering  to load their treasure chests
Colored corn cobs, yellow squash, varieties of  gourd
Winter’s readied woodpile neatly stacked up by the cord

Apple butter, apple cider, spooks of Halloween
Ginger snaps and candied apples, fragrant wintergreen
Jack o’lanterns, flannel shirts, Thanksgiving football games
The cherished autumn rituals that always stay the same

Of all these lovely thoughts of fall, my heart became aware
The moment I stepped out and took a breath of autumn air

Autumn is bangin loudly on my door and I
must say that this captures the beauty of
this time of year perfectly...thanks to Mr.
Yeats for reminding you to share this gift
with us once again...timeless beauty should
be shared over and over again~

Sy and Butterflies, Thank you kindly. When I read this I recognize how mechanical my writing was when I first started. But I do appreciate your comments so much.
Thank you
Liz
