How can I not write?
I may as well not breathe!
What else will get me through the night,
when all my passions seethe
just below the surface, waiting for the song,
that will stir my soul anew and keep me fighting on

How could I stop this rhyme,
that batters in my brain?
how would I fill in my time
till daylight solder's pain
of the night's existence, deep within my heart,
how would I be balanced then? How would I ever start?

How could my voice be stilled
that's integral to me
how could this gold go unmilled
and keep integrity
for all those fine emotions the good, the bad, the stark
how would my emotions, then, find their way through dark?

How could I not sing,
I may as well not cry
How could I not make the war cry ring
with  living, whilst I die?
make travel  plans to darkness, be willing to be filled
my breath to cease, my body stop, my voice at last be stilled

I have to agree - it definitely is a "writer's thang."  No matter where you go, what you see, a line, no matter how small, pops into your head as you scramble for the notebook in your purse/pocket!  I can't tell you how many times that has happened!!
Great piece!!

Thank you Michael, as stated before it was inspired by your "the last poem" although I was seduced into reading both yours and Liz' poems and loved them both.

Yep, yep Snowpants, I can relate to that. The only problem with me is that I have a book full of phrases that won't do what I want them to. Thank you for the response.
Kethry.

tracie66,thanks
It is great to get inspiration from other people, doorknobs, bits of stuff on the sidewalk, children's questions, lunches, clouds, belly button lint, marriage, sorrow...
but I rave.

Be well

Kethry, well said, but the belly button lint has got me stumped. If you can write a poem about that I bow to you!

Cool another negative poem, recently most of the poems I have read a realy positive which is ok, but there is nothing like a good old fashion 'Why bother ?' style poem . I think you have used the same style as my usual . Thanks - I thought I was the only one .

A great approach to the topic, I love the first line of each verse. Beautiful!
Let's see, that's 2 spin-offs of Michaels poem. He certainly is inspirational!
This is just lovely
