So this is it…time to throw
in the towel,
ring the bell my final round,
not so much quitting
as bowing out gracefully.
I lay down my pen, drain my inkpot
abandon my key board.
The ritual finished and yet it
calls as a starving child
begging for the metaphor mouth,
the milk of metre and verse…..
silence please I have given said all
I am empty of originality so child turn to
the black print back catalogue and tell me
truthfully that you have not heard it all before.
A pendulum falls breaking in silence
through the pillaged pages of poetry
erases all into a cleansing blaze.
In the rubble I crouch, elate and free,
to start again from fresh foundations.

-----------------------------------------
Well it has been an amazing four months at passions in this time I have grown as both a poet and a person in the company of such dazzling talent. I have made alot great and close friends here. Getting to my point College is coming soon and I will not have much time for Passions or poetry, I will pop in when I can. This is just a goodbye but also on a side note I am taking a holiday from writing. I feel like I have written all I can at the moment.. done my style and favourite themes to death so I am taking some time off and going to do a little life research until I can find some fresh inspiration. This will be my last poetry submission for a while. I will continue to follow the other poets at this site. Thank you for your time.

Aw, say it ain't so...you shall be back, as I have placed subliminal spells in my poetry--you have unknowingly become bewitched, a poet-slave to Passions...eee hee hee hee!

But seriously, (ahem) college is a great place to absorb writing material (sometimes I even went to class!) Enjoy, but do not become a stranger, as I am strange enough for anybody as it is...Thank you for your incredible poetry, m'friend.

well well well, my dear brian... this poem is really awesome (as are YOU)...the above lines are really great, btw... but i must tell you that reading this brought a tear to my eye... yep... let me say this... once a writer, always a writer... please don't stop!!!  if you want to take a break from writing, of course there's nothing i can say to make you change your mind and that's your prerogative...but... please make sure it's just a break!!!

i put down my pen for almost 10 years. it is something i greatly regret... when you aren't writing, you aren't growing as a writer and YOU are one of the BEST, most CREATIVE writers on these forums... and at such a young age... you have a BIG headstart.... when i was your age, my poetry was extremely adolescent, lacking of both form and substance... an empty shell... but you... you're poetry is exceptional in both form and substance already.... so....

my advice, whether you're asking for it or not is this

TAKE NOTES!

please carry a notebook with you... and then later, you will write again!!! and....

don't forget to email me from time to time.... *sob... it's been a delight getting to know you and writing our two collaberations... thank you, my poet friend, for being you and for being here... and... COME BACK SOON!!!< !signature-->

Brian,
Good luck new friend, in the words of the old Irish blessing ......

May the road rise to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face.
And rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the hollow of His hand.

Succeed in all that you do young friend

Ah Brian, I am sad to see you go. But moving on to new adventures is never a bad thing. And your talent is such that you will never quit writing. I would swear to that. So I will just say
until later
instead of goodbye
(damn it I can't remember the two french words that express that difference.)
Take care

Oh Brian, you are going to be sorely missed. I had just posted one before I read this and it relates so much to how you're feeling, believe me I know, more than you know.
Take care and hopefully, in the near future, you'll come back to us fresh and on fire for poetry, it never dies, we think it does, but it doesn't - - it's in the bones.
God bless you!!!!

Be well, my friend, and return with a full magazine of poetic ammunition and annihalate us with your genius. Best of luck to you.......

Mark, well I tend to get patches of writers block but this one comes with a feeling. Rest a sure I will be back   Thank you for your very generous comments and Mark you are a very talented poet in your own right. Thanks again and take care.

Eve, well we have had some great memories thank you for those and for sharing your wonderful spirit, kindness and support. I will be back and I know you will too and we can do another duet together... can call it cranky muses LOL

Dawn, big smiles back hugs and a secret *kiss* stolen while no one else is looking.
I would never stray   A huge thank you for support, persistence and all the other things. a daring *wink*

JulieAnn, I know that it take time.. I have spend afternoons, weekends lost in poetry here...time does fly. I agree that diversity is what makes passions special and I am happy to be part of that but at the moment I need to find that diversity. Thank you for your beautiful words

BDC, thank you for the butterfly kisses and for your beautiful words… I will still be here but my pen will remain dry until I can write something that I like. Thank you, your words mean so much to me.

James, thank you.

Serenity, I am a writer's holiday but that does mean that everyone else should stop writing so keep those poems coming and who knows one of them might bring some inspiration to me. Looks like you had some fond memory (blanks) of college LOL take care and thank you.

Kethry, thanks for thoughts and the butterfly kisses.. will treasure them.

RainbowGirl

I shall. Thank you

Doreen, no tears… god you got me speechless again I promise that I will keep thriving to write, I just want to move forward and I have been stuck in a poetic rut for a while… Thank you for all you have done for me… it means so much to me.

Lonely stranger, thank you for those words and for the blessing, my irish is so rusty I won't embarrass myself by thanking you in my native tongue.

Michael G I shall try to hurry back, depends on the mood of my muse. Thank you

Cat, "au revoir" are those the words you are looking for? I don't know I am struck for words myself at the moment. I will still be floating around the site when I can. Thank you Sandra.

Kathleen, yes poetry never dies.. I know that and one day I have the inspiration. Thank you for thoughts and very generous words.

Balladeer, I don't doubt your words in fact I can hear the warning shots now.. well thank you my friend, and keep those ballads coming.. I need my poetry fix even if I can't write... well thank you for very kind words...too generous.

Denise, I hope so, and I will around. I am just taking a back seat for the moment thank you.

Sven, thank you kindly

The Mad Den

You speak with words unknown
I've read and learned and grown
You're a talent of inspiring taste
Such a treasure not to waste

You’re a genius of intellect metaphor
Complexity that breaks down the door
I sit comfortably to read you when
I'm up to the kitchen for the dictionary again

Then back to the den to read some more
Sure enough I'm back through that door
I won't read on until I learn that word
Flying back and forth like a koo-koo-bird

You're probably thinking I am mad
But it's all because a little boy that was bad
He knew the dictionary was precious to me
So one day as a joke he glued it to the kitchen table you see

It keeps me wise and you know I'm not lazy
But the rest of the house thinks I'm crazy
I guess I'm mad when reading in the den
But it's all for the poet brian madden
