Bateman - Osprey

A wildlife artist - Bateman
Has painted many things
Rabbits, moose, deer and such
His color use just sings

His Osprey painting, close and real
Caught me with its life
For at the shore the perches are
High, remote from strife

I've watched them soaring
O'er the surf, serene, lazy, and slow
Till suddenly they'll dive so sharp
The fish is caught just so

The first time that I viewed one
Thought 'twas an eagle that I saw
But a bird watcher that 'scoped it
Saw the fish held in its claw

Said "No sir that's an Osprey
Only they nest on platforms raw
Their nests they use year after year"
The fish dropped in its young's maw.

So with the painting thus I viewed
This bird as if a friend
Could see it as a parent
As with nature it did blend

I will always watch the Osprey
For I love its joy of flight
And if in next life I've a choice
We'll soar together every night

I loved this story of the osprey and Bateman's painting. You painted it with your words.

Excellent writing, Bill. Those are great birds..and they figure greatly into religion, too...I know at my church after each sermon the preacher says "Let osprey!"

AAGGHH! I'm sorry, Bill. There's a bone in my brain that makes me do things like that   Your poem is great, really..

Martie-

You in your place on your coast, I in mine Although I wrote this early in '99  my life views then were at a distance - some 100 yards away and my feeble telephoto lens could not capture what Robert Bateman did - this year, in a boat, I got some great pictures -i love that bird ~S~ Thank you for letting me know you love it too.

Liz -

At the tip of Cape Henlopen State park in Delaware - you can view this majestic bird in its nest and gliding over the bay  - a sight that is so beautiful -it can bring tears Thank you for seeing it through my eyes

'deer -

I can remember the latin: "Dominic go frisk 'em" and "Benny got all the dominoes" the english: "Let osprey" was a refreshing change
Thanks

Karilea-

I've another 'Robert Bateman' piece - I will release tomorrow - A limited print I loved so much I sprung big bucks to purchase. (price of the Osprey print is now way out of reach)
I'm glad you enjoyed. Thank You

Wilfred~
I see the Osprey daily and they are joyous
splendor on wing.

You've done a nice job of capturing the canvas.
