Ten signs along Flirtation Highway,
Most men commonly fail to read.
Often thinking "I'll do it my way,"
Instead of, "Is she thinking of me?"

        Eyes
Exaggerating an eyebrow flash,
Then lowering to the normal state,
Often combined with eye contact,
And a wink directed his way.

        Glances
Short darting glances, often in bouts,
With an average of three in a set.
Meant to relieve initial selfdoubts,
That advances would meet with regret.

        Tongue
Tip of the tongue touching the lips,
Wetting the upper, the lower, or each,
Commonly used as a friendly tip,
That she's there within his reach.

        Face
Coyly smiling with a downward gaze,
Showing little if any of tooth.
Eye contact briefly directed his way,
Inviting a moment of truth.

        Hair
Flipping the hair by pushing the fingers
Through silky cascading strands.
Or stroking the hair and letting it linger,
'Neathe the palm of one or both hands.

        Hands
Sliding her hands up and down her glass,
Caressing objects like her set of keys.
Careful attention to what's in her grasp,
Are soft signals she wants him to see.

        Body
Solitary dancing there in her seat,
Eyes closed as she sways to and fro.
Letting the music move her to its beat,
Mouthing words she hopes he will know.

        Clothes
Raising the hem of an already short skirt,
To show a little more of her leg.
Adjusting the buttons on her blouse or shirt,
When she's seen him looking her way.

        Composure
Smoothing or patting the clothes she's wearing
Even if there's no need to do so.
A posture that is just a little more daring
Than she affected only moments ago.

        Friends
Leaning over and speaking into friends' ears,
Like in Junior High School again.
Another sign he has nothing to fear
Regarding her opinion of him.

Soft flirtations on the road to love,
That men miss when the signs appear.
Often supplanted by, "What's she thinking of?"
When the message is perfectly clear.

And just who told you all those "truths"? (Come on, we don't have to admit em ).
Great poem..

Cuddlez - Actually, I just learned them myself - lol.  Now I gotta go around watching Lorelei even closer so I will know when she's being more flirtatious than I thought.

Serenity - Thank you for the tip about the wink.  The stanza on Eyebrows has been changed to Eyes, and "smile" was replaced with "wink."  And Lorelei says I don't listen!  hmmmppphhh

My, my, aren't you the observant one. Too bad when you read the signs, you fall over your own tongue and drool.

Corinne - beads of sweat?  Boy, that brings back memories of a line I will never forget - "Darlin', if you only knew."

Kethry!!!  LMBO@drool - that is a classic comment!  LOL - You are terrible for highlighting my weaknesses!  - I love it!

Hawk - Right on the mark about 'Deer - and also about "Ask Delilah" - I needed a reliable source, so I went to Delilah.  Lets not tell Toe or 'Deer, though - OK?  Let 'em stumble around in their darkness, is what I say.

Heather - Of course its not true looking around to see if Toerag or 'Deer are trying to get some free tips.  Thanks for your compliments.

Bill - LMBO@our signs - lol - We can only hope for the best - this could be real bad if Lorelei or suthern or Kethry or Sunshine or Sunny1 or Heather or Paula or Dixie or Liz or Marge or Doreen or Nan or Rose or Rebecca or Butterflies or Martie or Ms deVine or Eloise or Severn or Corinne or Chansie or serenity or rainbow Girl or Hoot Owl or Denise or.... gets ahold of this idea.  We could be the butt of some real mean-spirited (but true) poetry!  What was I thinking!!!???

The two signs a man is flirting with you...

1.  He's in the same room with you

2.  see sign # 1

Mike, you missed one:

Attention

When she looks in your eyes, sees through to your soul
leans towards you and sighs, such is her goal
all of her attention, focused on you
that little signal is a sign of flirtation too...

or am I wrong?

Damn we're busted LOL!
LJ this was really good, and suprised me it did.

Actually there's a whole lot of truth, in what is written here, but I think a lot of it is also done subconsciously, out of nervousness too.

Taking notes... maybe my problem (or at least one of them) is not knowing how to flirt... okay... yup... I can do that... okeydoke...

hmmmmmmmmmmm... I guess it works better if I have someone other than my cats to practice on? LOL.

What can I say? I do tend to dance along with The Rolling Stones. Wondered why those cars pile up behind me. Or could it be I
m just a slow driver?
Anyway, cute poem

What an informative composition, LJA. I've printed this "list" out to refer to (a cheat sheet, as it were) just on the off~chance that I might inadvertently encounter a charming gentleman and suddenly take a notion to fall into shamelesss coquette, however unlikely. But after all, one never knows...

The cleverest writing, by the way.

Oh, you!  You are too kind!  A very strange coincidence occurred regarding that poem, I saw another poem entitled "Icicles" in another forum, it was a mirror image to mine!  I posted mine as a response, the writer couldn't believe how similar they both were!  I'll have to ask him if I can have his permission to post both here!

Geez!!! You mean that's what I've been doing all this time?  Flirting?  I wet my lips because they're dry. I mean with all the canadian winters and all. I raise my eyebrow because sometimes I may have a twitch and sometimes there could be something in my eye. As far as dancing to the rhythm on my chair..I can't help it. I just love music. I encircle the rim of my glass with my finger because sometimes there's traces of lipstick on it and I remove it that way.  I do all these things all the time...lol. Actually, there is quite a bit on your list that I do most of the time but I never thought that I was flirting or was I? Oh well, who cares! I'm a gemini and that's what geminis do. Flirt! hehehe

This was great! I loved it!
