Pause and Listen

by

Michael Auguste

Please pause and listen as I speak
That I might share a word or two
Allow a glimpse into myself
To share something you never knew

You know not me but only part
Of this whole person I allow
For you to see and then I close
This door again yet for awhile

This poet that you have come to know
These rhymes and words I chance to lay
Of love and such eternal woe
And dreams I chased along the way

Are puzzle pieces, one by one
A picture will they make when whole
A few more in this poem I'll give
And someday all to give my goal

Of brothers eight and sisters four
Right in the middle was I born
Into a home that was so poor
There was no breakfast in the morn

Of hand-me-downs and worn out shoes
And all the floors I had to sleep
If now a childhood could I choose
I know that still this one I'd keep

Age nine I was hit by a car
And there I was so close to death
My mother near all through the night
She prayed for my continued breath

Soft eyes of brown and same of hair
A vigil in the night she kept
This angel that was always there
That held my hand and softly wept

The next day woke I in such pain
My mother's joy filled my ears
Though badly broken it appeared
That fate was robbed, I'd live for years

And now I close the door once more
New pieces now have you to try
The childhood that I spent was poor
Sometimes this giving makes me sigh

A little more you know of me
Of things that seldom reach the light
This poet from many words you know
His food the stars, his air the night

This is wonderful and written
from your heart.  I'm glad I
got to know you a little better.
Our childhood memories are such
a treasure.

O my, I am so impressed by this one...

The flow of expression carried thru rhyme straight from your heart...

Thank you for once again sharing

Michael....
I'm glad you gave me this opportunity to get to know the real you a little better! This was what I like to read, about the man behind the words....talk to you soon.   And this is also a great piece!

~This was wonderfully written.
It takes courage to step out and show pieces of ourselves but you did it exceptioanlly well. This was a sad but powerfull tale!~

There are worse ways of being poor than to have no money...it sounds to me like you were rich beyond compare with a mother who loved you and brothers and sisters to share things with. Loved this Michael

I paused and listened, I'm glad I did for I found a hidden treasure in this poem, YOU! Though you may have not had much as a kid you had the greatest gift of all LOVE, It's spoken of so well here, thanks for sharing.
