Ready to do combat, knowing this task was hard,
I pulled on my old work gloves, and headed to the yard.
I grabbed a pair of pruners, to start this autum's task,
I didn't know that shortly, I'd be sipping from my flask!
A glistening, dew encrusted web, was clinging to the tree,
and a giant mutant spider, was waiting there for me.
I knew I had to get this done, and forgot that he was there,
But as I grabbed a broken limb, he crawled into my hair,
I tried to scream, but no sound, I was petrified you see,
For I knew this mutant spider, would be the end of me.
I beat my head with my hands, and he ran down my arm,
I swear that he was laughing, as I tried to cause him harm.
I whacked him with my other hand, and he jumped onto my shoe,
By now the neighbor's watching, to see what I would do.
I tried to smash him with a spade, but missed and hurt my toe,
As he went running through the grass, to where I didn't know.
I looked around and lost him, but knew he would be back,
So I called the environmentalist, to make a plan of attack.
I told her of the arachnid, that was huge and fuzzy too,
She told me that it'd just escaped, from the local petting zoo.
She said she'd be right over, and that I should stay inside,
That's when I got my little flask, from the place where it did hide.
Next thing I knew, hubby was home, and dusk was starting to fall,
As I explained the situation, I saw the mutant thing on the wall.
I screamed and in barged the lady, "At last," she said, "it's caught."
And now the pruning won't get done, it just left me too distraught.
For I know that mutant told others, and they're waiting there for me.
Watching from their hidden webs, on a branch of that old tree.

ROFL!!!  Bonnie you sound like me when I encounter a spider!

This was delightful and really got me laughing this morning! Carry some RAID with ya.

I love it!  Even after they're gone, you still feel like you're crawling with them. Give me the willys.  LOL...

Thanks for the humor this morning!

Bonnie - and where was your guard dog, Bo, during this trying, trying time? Hiding under the bed is my guess - lol.  You've told a wonderful story here!  I also notice that once your flask came out, the mutant spiders started appearing on your walls.  Normally, this doesn't occur until after the flask is empty.  heh heh

Great poetry, Bonnie - I enjoyed it very much.

I have seen your reaction to spiders, but as I remember you always are always able to scream. I bet you get goose bumps just reading this, and I can imagine how many you had while you wrote it.  Another poem that made me laugh, great job Bon....
