The East coast temperatures this summer have been at record lows,
No 90-90 conditions, suntan lotion sales were slow.
The swimming pools were hardly used, the skies were often drear,
All the signs are promising the coldest winter in many years.

Record sales of home canning supplies, water usage rates were down,
Shopping malls were empty, strip malls bloomed around the town.
Umbrella sales are at record highs, Christmas decorations are here,
All the signs are promising the coldest winter in many years.

Wooly caterpiller warnings, woodpiles stacked both long and high.
Tree leaves turning brilliant colors in the middle of July.
Children buying new backpacks, school bonds are in arrears,
All the signs are promising the coldest winter in many years.

Tek vests with coats and warmer colors are becoming the latest rage,
Along with sales of teddies and bodice-enhancing lingerie.
Cozy bedrooms with roaring fireplaces are the new de rigueuer,
All the signs are promising the coldest winter in many years.

Hospitals expanding maternity wards, diaper companies are gearing up,
Books on maintaining relationships say we're not doing near enough.
Romance novels promising fantasies, it's becoming perfectly clear,
All the signs are promising the coldest winter in many years.

So bundle up those swim suits, and get your long coats out,
We're headed for the ice ages, can there be any doubts?
Be sure you have a sweetheart, and be sure you keep him near,
All the signs are promising the coldest winter in many years.

Quite charming, in a Willard Scott sort of way, LJA. I'm off to Victoria's Secret ~

I'm looking forward to winter
Although I like summer the best
Long winter evenings
Spent with my lover and friend
Many nights in bed before the
Clock strikes five
Snuggling in the center of our bed.
Who says it has to be winter
To go to bed early
We do it most of the year!
I love the changing of seasons
(I love change of any kind as long as its good)
Cozy warm dinners of hearty homemade bread and soup
The kind that warms you body and soul
A throw on the couch to cover your legs
As under it they are entwined.
Just a few of my favorite winter things
And NO it does not rhyme!!
(But yours does Mike, and one poet in this family is good enough for me)

Lorelei - I write of love in my poetry - you write of love in your heart.  What a sweet blessing it is to have your words touch mine.

Thank all of you for responding - I think I'm heading toward the playful end of my poetry cycle again

I just hate it when those skies get drear!

We're braced for winter down here, LongJohn. I'm buying some courderoy bermudas, just in case

LongJohn~
Yep ... I'm with Balladeer ...
headed for the store and stocking up on
long sleeved blouses !

If it drops below 68 degrees -
I'm heading SOUTH !

Great to read the archival revival !
