UNFETTERED

Serpents rise in the distance
Beyond the eyes of fallen Chance.
I wade in the Inexistence,
Never so much as giving glance.

To bite the hands of Time I starve,
My soul may rot, my dreams may die...
But never shall those wrigglers carve
Upon my heart another lie.

And never shall my trust imbue
To heed the likes of those once held
In dire embrace, if believed true,
To meet that thirst ever unquelled!

Not voiceless shackles donned in grief,
Nor echoes flailing in the wind,
Nor dreams withered in disbelief
Would ever see the words unpenned.

For all once stolen remains gone,
If by some vapid joy embraced,
Or stoic penance ever drawn
To but hide smiles long since replaced.

hi MICHAEL,

What a pleasure it is to come across a poem you've penned to start my nite...

I'm left speechless after reading this twice (yeah 2x)...

You have a talent to weave words thru verse that this reader truly appreciates...

So happy to see your name in the scroll...big smiles and hugs...and I guess you gathered by the above quote, that I both enjoyed and related...thank you, St. Michael!  serenity does a curtsey, before her soft-shoe exit....ROFLMAO...missed ya.

Grief and  resentment poignantly portrayed... and yet... refusal to regret what was offered no matter its fate... This reminds me of one of my very favorite poems, Invictus "My head is bloody, but unbowed." Excellent!

Yanno I had just formed the "Dead Poet's Society" and made you an honourary memeber, and voila up you turn!
Great poem, miss ya oodles.
Does being in love make you write less poetry? Or is it all in some journal somewhere longing to be shared?
*hugs*

"But never shall those wrigglers carve
Upon my heart another lie."

Of course, quoting the lines I find the most moving in any of your poems would be an exercise in futility, as there are so very many. This, however, in particular, tugged me.

A classic piece of writing, to be sure, my friend, and one that I consider myself fortunate to have had pleasure with.

Take care,
~ Claire
