Often it is hardest to put to words our feelings for the people we care the most about, because words are never enough, they offer only glimpses
or maybe it is just me, anyway I find it hard to write about those who are closest to me. I have for a while wanted to write a poem for my dear friend and soul mate Alan, maybe this is not a great poem and if so I am sure he will see that I am suitably embarrassed for writing this. Anyway, this is dedicated to my close friend and soul mate Al.
=============================

For Alan

He is the sun,
the brightest star,
glimmering dancer
coated in fashion and glitter.
He is the centre point
the society one,
master of ceremonies,
energetically spun.

He is my polar mirror,
where I kept my silences
his voice prevailed,
strong willed
some may say over bearing.
Always prominent in control,
but beneath that sneer and sarcastic
tongue lies a sensitive soul,
an artiste of life and love,
passionate in cause and breaker
of many hearts, yet to me
he is the bold dawn
to my reposed dusk.

He is silent one, never outspoken,
more complex than many
would guess, a manner quite head strong
but always giving and nurturing,
in our differences
we never clash only meld,
he is a precious one, a true friend.

"I have penned epitaphs on snow, and written my legacy in dust." self quote.

It is always hard to write for those whom we care so much about especially when it has to be one of those "PERFECT" pennings.  I believe you have done that and I am sure Alan will appreciate it immensely.

Brian this was a lovely poem you wrote for your friend. And it is hard to express to our friends what they mean to us sometimes. You did a good job expressing it here.

Brian, I am sure that your friend, Alan, is all that you say, and what a lovely person he must be. But what strikes me most about this poem, Brian, are the things that you find important and precious about him, and the poignant detail with which you have brought the soul of this friend and your relationship to life through your exquisite and gifted writing. Beautiful...

Your heart is beautiful my friend and I
think you have written a perfect tribute to
your friend I'm certain it will be an honor
for him to receive this...said from the
heart and woven with the thread of
friendship...a work of fine art~
